I like beer...
By Tom T. Hall

In some of my songs I have casually mentioned
The fact that I like to drink beer
This little song is more to the point
Roll out the barrel and lend me your ears

(chorus)
I like beer. it makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer. it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow (makes him feel mellow)
Whiskey’s too rough, champagne costs too much, vodka puts my mouth in gear
This little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact I like beer
(he likes beer)

My wife often frowns when we’re out on the town
And I’m wearing a suit and a tie
She’s sipping vermouth and she thinks I’m uncouth
When I yell as the waiter goes by

(chorus)

Last night I dreamed that I passed from the scene
And I went to a place so sublime
Aw, the water was clear and tasted like beer
Then they turned it all into wine (awww)

I like beer. it makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer. it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow (makes him feel mellow)
Whiskey’s too rough, champagne costs too much, and vodka puts my mouth in gear
Aw, this little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact I love beer
(yes, he likes beer)

:D

2. Why don't they export that stuff over to the states?
Fosters ain't no good. At least not the American version.

3. I don't know - maybe they think it won't take off
They could always market it as a boutique beer.

Fosters tastes like cat piss strained through a longshoreman's socks - truly awful stuff no matter where it's made.

4. Well...
I never developed a taste for any beer, but I know many people who like it, and I have heard of and seen many funny incidents when people drank it.

And this Tom T. Hall song is a hoot and a half.
The "chorus" sounds half in the bag. :D

6. You're right - the song is just great
Many's the time I've spent with mates singing it during long boozy evenings at a pub. Don't do it so much any more, though.

7. luckily, it's not actually imported
our supply is made right here in the good old US of A, compliments of the Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

9. believe me, they have
and you don't want it. As their ad slogan states "Foster's: Australian for beer" There hasn't been a campaign that makes Aussies look as stupid since the good ol' days of Crocodile Dundee.

I prefer VB when I want to drink bad Australian beer, myself, but I don't think it's imported stateside.

5. I like beer, and I like cheese....
I like beer, and I like cheese
I like the smell of a westerly breeze
But what I like more than all of these
Is to be on horseback

Hey and away we go
Through the grass, across the snow
Big brown beastie, big brown face
I'd rather be with you than flying through space.

I like thunder, and I like rain
And open fires, and roaring flames.
But if the thunder's in my brain,
I'd like to be on horseback
Some like the city, some the noise
Some make chaos, and others, toys.
But if I was to have the choice,
I'd rather be on horseback.

Hey and away we go
Through the grass, across the snow
Big brown beastie, big brown face
I'd rather be with you than flying through space.

Some find it strange to be here,
On this small planet, and who knows where.
But when it's strange and full of fear,
It's nice to be on horseback.
Some are short, and others tall,
Some hit their heads against the wall.
But it doesn't really matter at all,
When you happen to be on horseback.

Hey and away we go
Through the grass, across the snow
Big brown beastie, big brown face
I'd rather be with you than flying through space.

So if you you feel a little glum,
To Hergest Ridge you should come.
In summer, winter, rain or sun,
It's good to be on horseback.

Hey and away we go
Through the grass, across the snow
Big brown beastie, big brown face
I'd rather be with you than flying through space.

You know, I'd rather be on horseback.
