I'm thinking about getting collagen pumped into my lips.

Seriously, why would anyone do this to themselves? Is it that addictive or is it insecurity?

2. I do think it is some form of insecurity.
Maybe they don't see themselves the way we do b/c that pic is awful.

5. It's similar to eating disorders...
No matter how "thin" they get when they look in a mirror
they still see themselves as fat.

Strange effect.

29. For some, it is.
Many people who have multiple procedures probably do suffer from some level of body dysmorphic disorder, and they really, truly cannot see themselves as others do; some don't even consider themselves normal, but instead as very ugly and even grossly disfigured!

Some people mistake such a disorder for vanity, but it's far from that simple.

to plastic surgery. She was once a very attractive woman.

24. An ethical doctor would.
Unfortunately, there are unethical doctors out there who perform plastic surgery on just about anybody, because it's a good money-maker.

I have a feeling she probably was a beautiful person. It is really a sad thing when one takes things to the extreme like that. I am sure it is more of something else rather than just vanity. I would think she has some sort of problem.

14. Why go messing with something that is already beautiful?
It is too bad that these people don't see themselves as pretty enough. I don't have issues with plastic surgery in general. If someone wants to do their eyes, nose, or whatever, more power to them. But sometimes you can come out of it looking like a clown. I find imperfections to be beautiful.

32. Hunter Tylo did the same thing - she looks fricking horrible
All the pictures on the net I found were of her old face from about 10 years ago. She just came back to Bold & the Beautiful and you can tell she overstretched herself and did something really funky to her lips.

She was this amazingly beautiful woman and now she looks like a freak.

35. She was gorgeous!
And now...she looks like she's had a lot more done than just her lips. Her face has that tight look, and her eyebrows are higher than they used to be. And she's only 43!

There was an in between stage where she really looked quite nice, but now she appears to have overdone it.

You do what you want with them, and I can promise you 3 brazilian percent, you won't have Heidi makin' fun of you, however it turns out. What you do with _your_ body is part of _your_ right to privacy and your medical choice, and that's a big part of what we're protecting as progressives. :pals:

15. Absolutely! I agree. I don't think I will ever have
plastic surgery. I don't say never b/c one never knows, but I am happy with what I have. I know lots of people who would love to change something about themselves, but the woman in that picture seems to have some issues, and that is another story. While it is still none of my business, I would like to think that doctors would recommend that she seek some counseling or something before having anymore work done!

18. I can understand why actresses "have work done"
Any flaws are blown up on the big screen. Nowadays, "leading men" often have "leading ladies" young enough to be their granddaughters. (Not that guys don't go under the knife)

So--a nip or a tuck might be a good idea. But time goes marching on. Eventually, enough is enough.

If I were an actress or in the spotlight, I may would consider plastic surgery. But as I've said before, I like imperfections. They add to beauty, IMO!!

27. You mean like Steve Martin and Clare Danes?
Yes, I do understand why some actresses feel as though this is something that must be done. And, of course, many have work done that is subtle, well done, and looks nice.

It just makes me feel sad when "regular" women feel as though they aren't good enough, don't measure up, and can't be their "best" if they don't have work done. As someone who has struggled for years with body image and being able to see myself as others do, it really bothers me.

44. I remember a "Vogue" article on plastic surgery....
The illustration was a close-up photo of part of a lady's face, with a neatly stitched up incision. Tasteful, not bloody. But I got the message.

The only reason I would have surgery is because a doctor (or two) suggests it strongly--for serious reasons. I won't go looking for it!

30. I was flipping through the channels and saw a horrifying story on E!
This woman wanted to get Collagen in her lips and I guess she didn't do much research into the doctor (decided to go to the Discount Lip Plumper). Turns out it was Silicone pumped into her lips and was horrifying disfigured. Her Limps weren't just plumped, it was like all of the area surrounding the lips were plumped out too.

And the sad thing was this woman was beautiful before the surgery. Sure, her upper lip was a lil on the thin side but she had a wonderful smile.

33. I didn't see the section on how she picked the doctor
I only saw a part of it where she talked about the horrible decision and they interviewed her 3 daugthers (all under the age of 15) about mom's botched surgery.

What a great role model :eyes: Kids, if your lips are too thin you could just go to a discount doctor and have them plumped up

37. I like my lips.
The top one is a little thinnish, but the bottom one is pretty full. The top and bottom shouldn't necessarily be the same size anyway. Even people with naturally very full lips are usually fuller on the bottom lip.

It wasn't even a doctor she went to - just a woman she met.

I agree with you that she was beautiful beforehand. She doesn't even look the same now.

Did you see the story about the woman who went for breast implants and later passed away, having received too much anesthesia?
