20. I have a PowerShot A75
... I like it alot. Replaces a Nikon Coolpix 950 that I dropped from a height of about 1 foot and ended its life :)

The cameras keep getting better and cheaper. I paid $900 for the Nikon, about $250 for the Canon, and I'm sure the Canon is cheaper by now :)

6. I like my Nikon a lot
There are nicer models than mine at affordable prices now, but I'm still happy with my camera. It's a Coolpix 3100, if that helps.

7. Get the most pixels you can afford,
and if it has zoom, optical is better than digital zoom for picture taking.

8. Give the top $ amount that you define as AFFORDABLE.
That would help.

I have an A75 myself and love it, the A520 is 4MP with a 4x Optical zoom, only $180 on Amazon.

13. I can say DO NOT buy an HP M23.
I bought one and returned it, because it didn't appear to be working right. The replacement did exactly the same thing.

What it does is this: it has problems recocnising the battery level. Sometimes you can put a fresh pair in, and it'll read them as dead or low. In a few minutes, it'll read them as fully charged, or half-way, or totaly dead. There's no predicting.

I kept it, because it has panorama and it's SD format, charges internally and I need those three features for work. If I didn't, I'd take it back.

It's the only camera I could find that had panorama and SD for under $150.

17. We like our Fuji Finepix,
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 09:49 PM by fight4my3sons
but I don't know how much it cost it's an F700 we purchased it at BJ's 3 years ago. My mom got a Finepix last year and loves it too, she replaced the Gateway digital camera that she HATED.

on edit - I see the picture taken with the Gateway camera a few posts up looks really good, so I don't know what my mom's problem was

18. Get as much optical zoom as you can get.
Not sure of the model, but Olympus makes a nice one.

Also, I bought a used Canon Powershot S1 from B&H Photo/Video online for $189. Only 3.2 MP, but 10x optical zoom. It's nice. :)

19. I just bought a Polaroid PDC-3080 for $65 or so on sale at Target
Regular price was like $120.

I haven't used it, since i bought it as a gift, but it's a 3.2 Megapixel with 3x zoom, including USB cable, carrying pouch, and hand strap.

It's about 3"x3"x1.5"

Seems like a hella nice camera.
