Would you be offended if you received a Chia Pet for Christmas?
Once again, it's the Christmas shopping season. And once again...the airwaves are filled with commercials for the delightful Chia Pet. They say that they "make a great gift". But...do they really?

2. LOL. I am giving two this year.
As gag gifts. Two of the Chia Shrek ones.....

I have a big party every year for just my lady friends....PF event. (Penis Free), and we have a Chinese auction. It is a frigging riot.

6. HaHaHa.
No, but men are not allowed. I just have to go on faith.

(Actually, I started this tradition last year because one of my friends lost her husband in a wreck and almost all holiday parties seem to be couples only....plus, we can have way more fun without the guys)

11. I've never had one
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 12:08 PM by cfield
and always wanted one. I wouldn't have a problem getting one as a gift! It'd be even better if it was something goofy like the Shrek or Scooby Doo instead of a tree or something.

Edited to add, I wouldn't even mind if my husband gave it to me. As long as that wasn't ALL he gave me. But that may be because I've mentioned how cute the Shrek is at the store and I'd be impressed that he'd pick up on a subtle comment like that.

much more practical and a better way to spend that money!!

Although, I don't know if I'd want one coming from a family member...

30. note to self:
develop "chia cock ring" for sale to suckers on du.

ps to self: replace "suckers" with "educated consumers" in marketing campaign.

22. I received a precursor to the chia pet
from my father-in-law. It was a head and the grass grew up through the holes on the top of the head simulating hair. That was 30 years ago and I still shudder at the thought of it.

23. Depends on who it came from
If it came from someone I expected to give me a thoughtful gift, like a spouse, parent, adult child, then I would be insulted. If I got it in the office grab bag, I'd probably laugh and try to swap it with someone else.

24. Depends on what kind of Chia pet it was.
I'd think the mohawk one was funny and probably grow it. I don't know about the others.

It's not the first gift on my list, though.

26. I wouldn't be offended but it would
probably end up in the attic with the other one I got years ago. So many jokes have been made about chia pets that it is now pretty much considered a joke gift. However..I saw an ad for a catnip chia pet. I think I might get one for my kitties. I just hope they are not offended!

35. Got one
last year from a friend at work. She was very proud of it. I water and take care of it. Ok, It was hard to warm up to it at first, but she would come in every day to see it grow (The lamb one,I think it's a lamb)and was so proud of it. Now, I've kind of gotten used to it.
Any gift given with love is a treasure. Some treasures are just a little harder to warm up to.
