My poor cat.
I had no idea he was hurting. We had to take him to the vet, because he was doing this weird licking thing with his mouth - and we notice that his teeth were in really bad shape. :(

He ended up getting 5 teeth pulled :( - now he's got pain meds (a whole 0.1 mL per day) and antibiotics.

Good news is that the vet said he's in great condition for a 13 year old.

1. *alarm* -- what weird licking thing?
Daddy is doing a weird licking thing, too. He does three or four chompy things where he sticks his tongue out each time, then he swallows. ???

I'm sorry for your kitty...

2. he would turn his head sideways and lick - because
one of his canine teeth was loose and moving around and getting in his way.

5. I see. Thanks. I'm really sorry for your kitty but he'll feel much better
when the pain goes away.

3. Our 9 yo female mixed Russian Blue was doing the same.
She had 5 teeth removed and it set us back about $350. But she's much better now.

Odd thing is, we only feed our cats IAMS dry food and she still had problems.

Glad she's doing better.

The Humane Society had him classified as a domestic short hair.

We only feed our animals dry food as well.

kinda like this cat except with more hair on the legs:

6. Ours is shorthaired but has a white puss and paws.
Maybe bad teeth are a trait of Russian blues. Is yours as solitary as ours? She's no lap cat, that's for sure.

7. he is pretty solitary. But he likes to sleep on me when I'm sleeping.
Definitely not a typical lap cat.

8. Yep. Just like ours.
But I think it's got more to do with the fact that she thinks the bed is hers and that I'm only in it temporarily.

9. I'm sorry to hear.
Ginger just came home, after we heard that there was a cat fight going on, as the victor I guess. I just can't make it out if the spots of blood are his or from the other cat. Tomorrow he'll be aching all day.

Good vibes for your cat. :hi:
