All hearsay for me, of course.
The one I remember and saw reported by Paul after John's death:
When writing a song, Paul would throw in words not intended to be used in the final song but used to develop the melody, or what not. For example, when Paul wrote "Yesterday," he was originally singing "Scrambled eggs."
Well, when Paul first played "Hey Jude" for John, Paul had temporarily thrown in the lyric, "The movement you need is on your shoulder." Paul remarked to John something like, "I just threw that in, it won't be the actual lyrics."
John replied, "Oh yes it is." Paul retorted, "No, it doesn't mean anything." To which John exclaimed, "I know what it means. Don't you?"
Paul left the line in the song. To me, it is a meaningful line, however cryptic.
