Has anyone ever been to New Guinea?
Either the Indonesian side or Papua New Guinea?

I'm wondering what it's like there, and how safe it is for Americans.

4. Papua
Pre 911

But I presume it is safe for Americans now. There are lots of ties to US dating back to WWII -- all favorable -- PNG -s a tropical paradise and haven for zoologists amd naturalists and linguists. PNGs love Americans. You can have a luxury holiday for little cost. Things are a bit disorganized, but if you are not on a schedule, you'll manage.

Worse discomfort you shall experience -- apart from culture shock -- is high humidity and lack of amenities if you eave the main city.

Buon viaggio! (or Nice trippy trippy)

5. Did you go by yourself or with a group?
And were you looking at anthropology or natural history?

(There are a lot of endemic Kingfishers there, and I'm wondering how safe and enjoyable it is for Americans)
