4. Spoilers ahead...
Lex's dream continues. He and Lana atend the party at the Kent's home and everyone is happy he's there. Senator Kent shows Lex a plaque that names Lex as Kansas's Humaniarian of the Year and issues toasts to Lex. Lex then has a serious discussion with Clark about why he's in this happy life with Lana. Clark responds that Lex became a man Lana could love, that by cutting himself away from the idea he's had of being a good Luthor in his father's eyes Lex became his own man - a good man. They are inerupted by Mrs. Kent saying he needs to go to Lana now.

In the hospital, we see Lex's surgery is touch and go, but he survives. Mr. Luthor talks to his son, telling him he will walk again. In Lex's dream, Lana gives birth to a girl but begins to have problems. She's hemorrhaging and needs to be transferred to the expensive Davis Cllinic. Lex goes to his father for help, but Mr. Luthor turns him away coldly. He reminds Lex that if he'd gone along with his plans to seek power instead of giving up his run for the Senate after he'd been shot 7 yrs. before, his life would be very different. He'd have had the power to help Lana but now he has nothing. Lex goes back to Lana and they say their goodbyes as she dies. Lex's mother shows up again, and Lex demandds to know why she showed him this life. She told him she was showing him a life where he has love, but he's too frustrated and angry to see that.

When Lex comes out of his dream, he's still in serious thought mode. He confronts his father about risking his son's life for a surgery to make sure (paraphrasing here) "he didn't wind up with a cripple for a son". The dad said he justified the risk because he loves his son, but when Lex asked how he would justify doing the surgery if Lex had not lived, the father couldn't respond.

While Clark is still out delivering toys, Chloe gets a visit from Drunken Santa (the one Clark saved from falling off the building) and he offers to help with delivering the toys. Reluctantly agreeing, Chloe turns around to give him the list of addresses for the remaining toys but Santa and the toys have all vanished... (kinda predictable, but cute)

Back at the Kent farm, there's a nice gathering of friends for a party. Chloe tells Clark about the Santa and they're both baffled. As Clark and Lana spend their first Christmas Eve together, it begins to snow...

Later, Lex is standing by the window watching the snow and the guy he's visited at the beginning of the episode (in the alley) shows up to the hospital room to ask what Lex's decision is regarding the Senate race. Lex gives a little dialogue about what's necessary for life to be good - money and power. "Everything else can be secured after that.", he says. He then instructs the guy to dig up dirt, find something, make it up, whatever, on Mr. Kent because Lex wants to win the Senate seat at any cost.

And that's how it ended...
