Damn Christmas music!
The law firm in which I work has gotten the bright idea to torture us all by installing a Muzak system and blaring the same fucking Christmas music over and over and over again until we're all in shitty moods. I feel like I'm working in a fucking Starbucks!!! This auditory torture is just driving me to drink (more). And I hate Christmas music as a rule!!!!

7. I'm sorry to hear that
I worked in an office like that about 15 years ago. The secretaries would wear Santa hats to work. And this was in Manhattan! They played "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree" at least 30 times a week. I thought I was going to blow my brains out. Can you possibly talk to them about it?

8. I may have to talk to them soon.
It's affecting my ability to do my work, to hear our clients, many of whom English is not their first language. It's tough enough trying to understand them without Anne Murray's Christmas album blaring in my ear! :silly:

1. Not in my office, because I'm self-employed
But I live in a small town and now every time I go downtown to pick up mail or run an errand, the music is blasting from the speakers. Problem is, I get earworms, so if I hear a really cheesy song like "Jingle Bell Rock," it will be stuck in my head for hours. Grrrrr!

Can you wear earplugs and still function in your job? Or maybe you-all can get together and contribute a CD of more pleasant music. There actually is some nice instrumental music for Christmas, but generally it sure isn't what you hear on the street and in stores and in offices and on hold on the telephone and et cetera, et cetera, ad nauseam.

One Christmas CD I like, which is both instrumental and lyrics, is by Diane Taraz. Check her out on the Net. Very nice voice, and some little changes in the lyrics which make it not so old-fashioned.

2. I'm the receptionist, so I need to hear the phone, so
no dice on the earplugs. I can't blare it out with music of my own, because I need quiet, not more noise, to deal with the clients. I have no office, so I can't shut my door. I'm really trapped...:( Plus, my boss is a tyrant with terrible taste, so she makes me keep it at a certain volume, with certain music. I may go postal soon. :silly:

6. You have my complete sympathy and empathy.
I hate music being forced on me. It's like this weird dysfunctional symptom of our society, of those who can control such things forcing it upon others. It's everywhere, though, like the girls next door to me who play their gawdawful music so loud I can hear it, but they won't turn it down. They're the only ones in the neighborhood to play music loud, and I'm a "silence is golden" kind of person.

I totally relate to your helplessness. I also need quiet to function. FWIW, I've informed a couple neighbors that if they hear gunshots from my general direction, to please call an ambulance for the people next door. :silly:

15. So your beef is not being a trinitarian as it is with noise?
I think it's worth a discussion with your boss about your productivity..

4. When I worked in retail they played the same 20 songs over and over
I went back to the store to shop years later and they were still playing the exact same sequence of songs.

5. This kinda thing is so INFURIATING!
How dare my bosses torture me like this. I seriously want to quit just because of this. The Muzak guy said there are 1,000 songs on the CD. I don't think so. I hear the same song three times a day. :grr:

9. But you have to admit that "Carol of the Bells" is incredible.
That and "Greensleaves" are probably the only Christmas songs I can stand. I prefer Hannukah songs, actually. I might have spelled that holiday a bit wrong...

But Carol of the Bells is awesome.

11. I can't recall how those go. They aren't on our CD at work...
Because before this year, I had pretty good luck in avoiding Xmas tunes. But not this year. Even at my usual pub that I went to last night, they were playing songs I'd heard three times already that day, like Winter Wonderland and Silver Bells. Argh!

17. Greensleaves isn't a Christmas song
Supposedly it was written by Henry VIII lusting after Ann Boleyn or one of the others (she wore a dress with green sleaves).

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time. Paul McCartney should be shot for that one....

13. Would it be better if it were classical instead of Muzak?
I happen to find classsical Christmas music to be quite beautiful. But I guess anything played over and over could be very irritating.

Can you offer your own CDs to be played on their soundsystem?

Sorry for your earworm troubles! :hi:
