AaaaaaaRRRRRGHHHH! (advice needed!)
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 12:35 PM by ncrainbowgrrl
I took the day off from work (I'm sick) and I'm trying to enjoy relaxing on the couch. However, I have a 15-20 page paper due next week for a class that I'm taking. Working 40 hrs/week & writing a paper isn't exactly easy, but neither is trying to write while sniffly/sneezy. What would you do?

Would you write now- taking advantage of the time out of the office today

-or-

relax today, not think about the paper and just sleep off the cold/cough that was picked up on the plane returning from a business trip.

2. I would do as much as you are comfortable enough to do
Maybe an outline of the paper so when you feel better, you can flesh it out. Feel better soon!

3. Think a little about your paper... Make a few plans about it...
But, take most of the day to rest.

4. I'd say rest now. You can't give what you don't have.
You may want to try this while you're on the couch resting. It works for me to reduce stress and realign my thoughts. Sit comfortably. See yourself in the middle of a perfectly formed, comfortably large circle. Give yourself whatever time for it to come into view. As you gently concentrate on its perimeter and the space inside it, it will fill with peace. You can increase this by asking that it increase and by continuing your focus and normally breathing in and out. After you've done this for, say, a minute or so, see the circle filling with gentle, flaming gold, moving through you and all around you. Relax and breathe that in and out for awhile. It operates with and is independent of your breath. Any movement you get is a sign that you're processing what you're holding. Duration helps build the image and benefits as does frequency. A minute or so is all you need to do at any one time to get great benefits unless you want to do more. After awhile, you can do this anywhere. Spend some time with golden flame and then begin to work with gentle, purple flame for a change. Then, mix or alternate the two.

7. Work some on the paper, even if it's just the outline

For an hour or two... because you're probably going to feel worse tomorrow.

Then chill.

8. what I would do . . .
Spend a lot of time thinking about the paper but not actually write anything down until about 8 hours before it was due.

That worked for me in college but I won't claim it works for everybody.

9. Thanks, y'all!
I managed to pull some stuff out of the paper proposal and start working on some structure for at least one section of the paper. I also got off the couch to get some of the books that I left at work ( I have SUCH a nice short commute!!) so at least I don't have to do it tomorrow...

That said, I'm tired!

10. Rest and think about the paper while daydreaming
Let it crystalize and then it'll all come out in a great intellectual flood.

Well, sounds good on paper, anyway.

:silly:

11. Take time to get well.
Your paper will suck if you are not up to it. You have permission to be ill and pamper yourself. Get to it...NOW.

12. I do the paper
but that's just me. Then you can rest and recover without worrying about it anymore.

13. Work a little on the paper....
Do an outline, try to get your thoughts in order so that you can write it up and flesh it out later. But don't push yourself. When you're home sick it can get boring. So if you're gonna do something to entertain yourself, might as well do something useful.

But no, I wouldn't actually write the paper now. If you feel so bad, you're going to be distracted by that and not do your best work. But you can still lay in bed and lay a little groundwork so that when you get better and go back to work (and have less time) you don't have to start from scratch.

Hope you feel better soon :)

Khash.

14. # 2. Your paper will be better if you feel better when you write it.
