Any Flash MX 2004 mavens on DU?
My brain is fried I can't take it anymore. The effect I am working on involves 4 pages that open revealing a page below. The pages also close revealing the previous pages. So there are 4 open MCs, 4 close MCs, buttons that call the opens and closes and masks that reveal what is on the pages. My opens are are all working fine, my closes are going crazy.

It is very similar to this promo for Sin City

2. Here is my SWF & FLA
Edited on Sun Dec-11-05 02:18 PM by rosebud57
My SWF: (I have text identifying some of the components like open mc since the page graphics look the same)

http://kids-voting.org/fla/

My FLA:

http://kids-voting.org/fla/verbargs9_650x650.fla

Some background. I did not build the original FLA, it was given to me by PointRoll. The original was for MasterCard and even though it had 4 pages it only had 2 different pages movie clips, so it was calling the same pages twice. The original file had large page turning flaps that obscured most of the images on the pages below. I have modified the open and closing movie clips and the masks that reveal the pages so that the page graphics do not cover so much of the image. I did all this before I even started thinking about the actionscript that controls the opening and closing of the pages. I dod believe that part of my problem is the original FLA had a timeline for 4 pages to turn but only 2 separate open_mc & close_mc using the same 2 bitmaps for the 4 pages timeline.

4. Have you been specifically directed to use this method?
It's rather clunky. As far as the programming goes, one of the problems you should look at is the close function trying to tell a movie clip to an anchor that doesn't exist -> 04close

6. The labels was 1 of the first things I considered
I have a feeling the FLA that PointRoll sent me was never finished. I thought of the labels being the problem and tried that.

I just swapped my bitmaps into the MCs in the original file:

Here is the original file with my bitmaps and also calling 03_open, 03_close, 04_open and 04_close

7. PointRoll has to create code after I upload my finished SWF files
Edited on Sun Dec-11-05 02:54 PM by rosebud57
to their user interface in order for the ad which has a trigger that causes the 650x650 panel to expand, which production then hard codes into the template on the days that these ads run. So the labels may be necessary for the ad display code rather than the movie since the open and close movie clips are triggered on release by the buttons at the top right (next page) and bottom left (previous)

The 100x100 trigger expands the panel and advances automatically to frame 40 so the first page turn is automatic.

11. Expanding ads and online revenue may be the only thing that can
save our newspapers. Without newspapers and the resources they have to investigate I am afraid democracy will die. For instance the Toledo Blade and Coingate.

8. I fixed the original, now it works correctly back and forth
You'll need to redo the scrolling to show more and swap your images again.

right-click and save, clicking link in browser will provide garbage

14. I wish I could say I understand where the timeline needed to go
Logically it seemed like it should have gone 01open, 01close, 02open, 02close etc. I guess the timeline was actually jumping around?

15. Never mind I figured it out, it is advancing one frame in the time line
based on the labels in the actionscript layer :)
