Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy!
My dad wants to give me a laptop for Xmas. He's looking to spend no more than $1000. I've never used a laptop, so I don't know much (anything) about them. I know I want to be able to surf wirelessly where ever I am without having to be in a "hot spot." Is that possible? Please forgive my ignorance.

Could someone point me in the right direction. It's a lot of money to spend and I hate to blow this one chance.

Thanks. :D

1. IBOOK G4
you will LOVEEEEEEEEE it!(12 inch ibook is <1000.

It's super light, fantastic for the average user, no viruses to worry about, and the wireless connectivity is fantastic. you do have to be near a hot spot, but places like panera and coffee shops should give you free service anyway. you don't even have to set anythign up on an ibook, you just want into a hot spot and it automatically registers you and you can just browse away!

it's the best investment i've EVER made.

2. That sounds great
I'm just a little frightened because all I've ever used is Windows. No Apple/Mac experience. Would that be a problem?

I was a hardcore Windows/Linux user before I switched. I'm honestly now more comfortable on the Mac. I sometimes feel like this beauty can read my mind and just does it. it's just incredibly natural/free flowing.

you can directly drag and drop images into applications(without having to save/open alll that jazz...)
office for mac is better than office for windows. the workflow is better, the interface is more intuitive.
photo/video/music/powerpoint editing are great on this, i mean ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!

but the 2 biggest things for me were the VAST amount of applications it can handle at once and the noise factor. it makes NO noise. i kid you not, i can never tell whether it's on or off just based on the noise it makes. it's just amazing that i have it running right now and i seriously couldn't tell if i closed my eyes that it was on.

and i have run 15-20 applications at once on this thing, and it never complains. it ran each one at normal speed, everything went well. i use hit for video/photography/music/powerpoints/notes/calendar, etc. so all my apps are pretty intensive, and it sitll never complains.

plus it's super small, super light, and SUPER cute. i get girls commenting on it all the time...:D

so yeah, it's a total workhorse, a piece of art, and high performance all in one. just an amazing investment for me.

6. Apple iBook
Every person that I have convinced to buy a Mac PowerBook or iBook has fallen in love it and thanked me profusely.

Even though you may only know Windows now, you will learn MacOS quickly and it will change the way you think of using a computer.

Macs simply work. They don't crash. You don't have to worry about spyware or viruses. And, an iBook will quickly become your best friend.

The only type of person who I would not recommend a Mac to is a hard-core video gamer. Otherwise, you can't go wrong.
