Great movie; been forever since I'd seen it last.

Much more refreshing than anything made today.

Definitely a sweet movie...

Best of all, or rather what I think is most interesting, is the mean lady (who is the witch in Dorothy's technicolor dream) who says "Being a Christian woman..." regarding Dorothy and her dog Toto... :)

But were the b/w scenes meant to be b/w or sepia tone (brownish)?

1. I'm going with sepia.
That's how those scenes have always appeared in the restored versions, at least to me. I still love this film...

My favorite version is one I copied from Turner Classics when they showed it with the Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon soundtrack.

2. sepia, but there are all sorts of different facts and trivia
listed about the movie that can explain it better than I can on the Internet Movie Database.

4. Wrong
The line "being a Christian woman, I can't" is delivered by Aunt Em to Miss Gulch who is the one who becomes the Wicked Witch. This is after Miss Gulch tells them that she has orders from the sheriff to take Toto away to be destroyed. I think the whole thing is something like "For 30 years, I've wanted to tell you exactly what I think of you, but now, being a Christian woman, I just can't!"

And even though by today's standards it's pretty primitive, I love when Dorothy opens the door and the movie goes from sepia to color.
