I don't believe in an interventionist God
"Into My Arms" - NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS

I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms

And I don't believe in the existence of angels
But looking at you I wonder if that's true
But if I did I would summon them together
And ask them to watch over you
To each burn a candle for you
To make bright and clear your path
And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love
And guide you into my arms

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms

And I believe in Love
And I know that you do too
And I believe in some kind of path
That we can walk down, me and you
So keep your candle burning
And make her journey bright and pure
That she will keep returning
Always and evermore

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms

Man, I am really loving discovering Nick Cave...

2. Great song.
This was actually our "first dance" song at our wedding (a few of my older relatives, who remembered my "defiant atheist" stage, cracked up at the opening line) -- we know how the marriage turned out but the song was a good pick.

4. I remember this song
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 06:01 PM by socialdemocrat1981
It had its debut on the Australian charts in early 1997 and I first saw the video clip on our video hits program. It didn't do as well in the charts as it should have but I seem to remember that Cave performed this song at the funeral of INXS singer Michael Hutchence a few months later. In any event, it's a very touching and profoundly haunting and beautiful song

10. As well as for being a great music artist in his own right
I also admire Hutchence for his social conscience. He was a member of the group Artists Against Racism (AAR) and seem to remember that he was involved in Live Aid as well. I miss him as well -he seemed to have such a promising life ahead of him. And it's sad that his kid will grow up not knowing either of her parents

6. Oh, this is beautiful, my dear RetroLounge......
And how nice to have a bonus poem (even if it isn't primarily poetry) at the end of the day!

I LIKE this one......
