3. He reminds me of one of Spook, one of our barn cats

Note: His name has nothing to do with race, we named him that because he spooked easily as a kitten.

5. His eyes look like he should be named Spook. We are on Merlin
number two. He was my father in law's cat. He had had a black cat named Merlin...and then, when he died, he got this one...and named him...Merlin. :) :hi:

I lost the majority of my ferrets these past two years to congestive heart failure and adrenal disease. I adore ferrets but the horrific illnesses they are prone to -- all that heartbreak -- makes me pause.

47. Sorry to hear about your
ferrets. They are prone to so many things. I lost Gizmo to cancer in June, and Mojo has Insulinoma. Gizmo was barely 4 when he got cancer and went fast, even with chemo. Mojo is 6 plus (a rescue) and has been doing ok with his Insulinoma for the last year. Its heartbreaking to lose any pet though I am partial to the ferrets. Though they have short lives I don't see myself ever not having a ferret or five again.

I wasn't sure how one would do with cats but I see yours didn't seem to have a problem.
Are ferrets litter-box trainable? How often do you have yours out and roaming?
Any advice or suggestions for me if I'm ever able to talk my husband into getting one?

Thanks!

72. The ferrets rule the cats.
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 06:52 PM by CC
They get along pretty good. When the cats have had enough they just get out of reach. I keep a tall stand clear on top so the cats have somewhere to go that is ferret proofed. Mine are litter trained and very good about it. I started them as soon as they came home and they rarely have accidents. You do have to use a litter like yesterdays news or wood pellets for them. And keep the cat litter away from them, one it is dangerous for them and two they will throw it everywhere. These guys are spoiled so they are free to run through my room. It is very ferret proofed, on the second floor and has 4 doors between them and the outside. They do have cages, very big cages that they use once in a while. Mine sleep with me and the cats on the bed. Ferrets are great feet warmers.
advice wise I would say read as much as you can about them, good and bad. Places like Ferret Central on the web have good info. A great book is Ferrets for Dummies. They do take work, clip nails, clean ears, hide or put away everything you ever want to see again, but they are worth every minute of the work. They are very smart and very curious. They also learn to get places you would never imagine. Hope some of this helps.

69. yep, we love our critters!
My part pitbull (posted here) has been deemed dangerous by our society, but I have found her to be the most loving dog ever. My 8 month old kitten (posted here kicking her butt) crawls all over her, bites her, and just loves her. A real testimony to the fact that living in an environment of love and patience will curb any inbred tendency toward aggression.

Happy Holidays!
