"Cape Fear" original or remake--which do you think is better
This weekend I saw the original 1962 film "Cape Fear" with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum and then we watched the remake with Nick Nolte and Robert DeNiro. I liked the original better and as good as DeNiro is--I think Mitchum was even more scary in the Kady role.

What do you think?

1. The remake is an abomination
DeNiro chews up the scenery as a typical bug-eyed psycho.
Robert Mitchum is pure menace in a Panama hat.
No contest.

2. Nobody but nobody could do pure understated evil better than Mitchum
He proved that not only in Cape Fear but also in The Night of the Hunter.

Both movies are dated in certain ways, but Mitchum's performances certainly aren't. It's not so much what he does as the way he looks at his prey that is so chilling.
