My new Pirelli tires are simply THE best tires I've ever had
and I thought I'd had some excellent tires. I took the car down to NYC and back today, they were soft on the bumps but firm in the corners, grippy, but most of all - after I'd driven them about 200 miles, they were almost totally silent. I mean, it was somewhat surreal until I got used to it

Pirelli = :thumbsup:

That is all :-)

1. I don't know if I could handle that.
Not hearing my tires at all is how I tend to tell that I've hit black ice.

5. Great tires except for the crappy treadwear.
I've had 2 sets of Pirelli Scorpion ATs. Good grippy tire, but they wear down quickly.

6. Well, I don't drive like I used to
so treadwear would be nice, yet, if I got this job, buying a new set and different ones ( as well as the first replacement struts for the stock ones that have been blown out after 113,000 miles, new pads and rotors, new bushings, new sway bar) around springtime won't be so bad *crosses fingers*

8. 97 Mitsu Eclipse GS-T
Today was the first time in years I've taken it over 70 since I've been on some horrifically worn Bridgestones for the last few years. It's been a very lean time in college, monetarily speaking.

These are the P6000s

10. They aren't built for speed, but I'm not so much interested in that
these days - it's just nice to not be worrying about another one of the last set losing slabs of rubber at speed like oh, 9 months ago :scared:

I'm seeing here that the wear isn't great. We'll see. I needed new tires asap, had cash in hand, but so far I love them

26. Just be careful in the snow...it looks like the survey results are
slightly dubious with regards to snow traction:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=P6000+Sport+Veloce

My all-seasons worked well in the snow last winter, but this winter, I've already had problems just turning corners at low speeds - I'm thinking of just dropping the bucks on a winter tire & wheel package so I don't have to spend $70-75 now, and the same amount in the spring, then doing it all over again next fall, for mounting and balancing. I can just bolt on the new ones in my garage for nothing.

31. I'm only about 5 miles from work in a little town - the problem here
is that the plow drivers (city workers) only seem to work bankers' hours. The state plow drivers do a great job working around the clock when it gets bad, so once I get to the state road, I'm golden. The problem is negotiating the city streets!

If they wear out, why can't you use your warranty?

12. A toast to great new tires!
:toast:

I just bought a brand new set of Michelin Hydro Edge. They're great for snow and ice traction. They're worth more than the car they're on. I had too many spin outs last year.

I'm going to run my car until it dies but I'm not going to let it take me with it.

13. My last fronts were all but bald
and for a front-wheel drive car, that just totally sucked during the last snowstorm - there was simply no way I was going to squeeze another winter out of them.

Agreed with your last sentence, may our cars run less than us :toast:

14. Let's see. My 3 Kumho's are nice, but noisy.
The one LeMans (purchased while on my latest trip) is quieter.

I guess I'll keep Pirelli in mind next time I decide to un-ghetto my tires.

15. They're grippy, but I haven't really pushed them 'too' much, but
for grip in the wet, nothing has beaten my Bridgestone Potenzas

Actual mental quote "Holy fucking shit I should've never survived that" after hitting a right turn too fast in standing water with an 18-wheeler coming the other way fast :-)

I got a nice long life out of my Michelin x-one's, but they aren't performance tires by any means.

18. I'll never buy another Michelin or Goodyear
In my experiences, neither have any feedback, they just stop turning. The Potenzas on the other hand, they'd give you all sorts of warning before losing grip, and even then it was so controllable I've (in ANOTHER circumstance) used their even sliding to not die.

I guess slowing down was a good idea

I'm guessing this is a testimonial for Potenzas. When that time comes, those will probably be the next purchase. They're just very available through Firestones.

And of course I have to have an odd tire size. 195/65/R14. :eyes:

21. True, built in the same places, but different tread designs
I'll confess, I'm a Ferrari fan, and I bought the BStones when Ferraris were whoopin ass up and down the F1 track, especially in the wet. This is one of those rare circumstances when jadad consumers like me believe that things learned on the racetrack were actually put into use on a consumer level.

19.  Just Got Pirelli tires for my subaru 2 months ago, nitrogen filled vs air
which was free and available here at tire stations in California

Nitrogen filled tires have many advantages over ordinary air

Better Tire Pressure Retention - nitrogen migrates through a tire 3 to 4 times slower than air. It may take 6 months to lose 2 psi with nitrogen compared to less than a month with air.

Improved Fuel Economy - maintaining the proper tire pressure reduces the rolling resistance, boosting potential fuel economy.

Extended Tread Life - tires inflated with nitrogen retain the optimum designed profile and run cooler than tires inflated with compressed air.

Elimination of Oxidation - oxygen in air is highly reactive at high pressures and temperatures. Replacing air with dry nitrogen helps eliminate oxidation that damages inner liners and belt packages.

Reducing Road Hazard Issues Due to Tire Failures - without the oxidation and excessive heat, tire failures can be significantly reduced.

24. Ask your dealer if it is available in your area
Air compressors in winter time might have traces of salts and other minerals used in snow removal
which have adverse chemical reactions to the inside of the tire.

It has been used in racing for quite a while and is becoming more common
for commercial use and availability here in California at no extra charge.

34. But what do you do if you need to add some...
and the tire store is closed? Is there a little canister of nitrogen you can get to carry around with you?

That's the only thing I'd worry about with nitrogen-filled tires.

They are awesome. Better than the Michelins I bought for my Probe one year when I had some extra cash. I dread having to replace them, I'm sure they are not cheap.

36. I replaced Pirellis on my Saleen with Michelin Pilots.
And I had the same result you did -- a softer ride. The Pirellis only lasted 18,000 miles. I've had the Michelins for 22,000 miles and they look great. However, I'm probably not as hard on them as the previous drivers. (I don't leave rubber on the road. ;) )
