I got my cable bill yesterday.... (grrrr)
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 10:17 AM by kick-ass-bob
And of course, there is ANOTHER notice on ANOTHER rate increase - this one is about $2.50 for the standard service. We just had our rates go up about 3 months ago, and now it goes up another 5%!

This makes it $50 a month for just the regular crap so we can have ESPN (I would die), Nickelodeon (the kids would die), and Lifetime (wait, I die by having it!)

Fucking bastards.
:grr:

1. And Another Thing. . .
. . .i lost History Channel West (we still have the east version), and i have zero idea what i got in its place. Channel 276 is simply not there anymore. Grrrr! I watch lots of History and Discovery and not having that extra option is sticking in my throat. There'd be more headroom if they would just dump all the religious networks that hardly anyone watches anyway. (Ever seen their cable ratings? Most of them come in below 0.1 so they get ZEROS.)

2. Yeah - they are adding a(nother) religious channel
Is that worth $2.50 a month for me?

Note - I don't even have digital cable.

3. Oh Great!
Just what we need. A channel pandering to a tiny minority that doesn't even watch it. Duh!

One of my best friends just said to hell with cable as well. He went with the Direct TV for about $60 a month-lots of digital/DVR features including really cool sports and news pages where you can see all the shows (say CNN FOX MSNBC CNBC) on one screen and you pick which one you want to watch.

5. We have cable internet (Earthlink) through TW Cable's lines
If we dumped cable tv completely and went satellite, do you/anyone know if that would affect our internet service?

10. I have time warner (roadrunner)
for our internet service. We would also have Time Warner for our cable but have DirecTV instead.
My internet bill is around 40 bucks a month and depending on what you order on satelight could go over 100 bucks.

It wouldn't affect your internet service.

8. Call them and tell them you are switching to Direct TV because
of the cost. Here, Comcast will negotiate rates with you.

13. I can't get satellite TV
My apartment building won't allow it. :-(

Unfortunately, the only channels I really like to watch are on digital cable, and I do love my DVR. Even so, I can't get Sundanc without going up to the next tier. :grr: However, once I finish watching what's already recorded, I am seriously tempted to dump cable and get DVDs of my favorite shows.

12. I hate Cable, too
I used to work for Comcast and Adelphia. It was awful. Every year around this time we would have to come up with some lame excuse as to why the prices were going up. When I left Adelphia, I went to DirecTV and have loved the lower prices. We pay around $65 a month for all of the "satellite" channels and HBO. Because I have the BellSouth Complete Choice plan, I get $10 off each month for DirecTV. It's kind of worth it!

16. Yeah - I remember that. I also remember when we cut back to basic
from standard (paying $10 a month) and the cable company never cut our standard service off. It was a shame to have had to move from that place.

19. I once had free Showtime for about almost a year
They had for some reason not cut mine off after a free weekend. It was great. That was with the old Detroit "Barden" system, before Comcast bought it out. Unfortunately, the Barden system was very bad in some other ways-the first couple of channels barely came in, if the slightest wind hit, cable would be out. ComCast costs me about the same for digital that Barden cost me for basic.
