How about some nominations for Song, Movie, TVShow, Book & Dem of the year
So I'm watching the 247th award show for 2005 (Radio Music Awards) and I'm thinking, damn there are too many award shows out there and they are all giving awards to people who personally I don't think really did anything that qualify as worthy of an award. Of course that took about 5 minutes into the show and I ended up turning off the TV. Only reason I considered watching it was for some bizarre reason Led Zeppelin was actually nominated for an award (When did they get back together??!!). So who knows who won.

Anyhow, let's put together our list of top winners in the Entertainment field. Who was the best out there. I'll try not to get too specific - but here are the unofficial rules of our award show:

It needs to be something that was publically available to the mainstream. Maybe your nextdoor neighbor's cousin published an underground rant against the existance of God but unless I can find that on Amazon.com it doesn't count. All movies/books/music must have been released in year 2005 (for Actor/Actress their role must have occured in a movie that was released during 2005). As for the political/activist stuff - they must have served during 2005 or done something significant during 2005.

So the categories for the Best of 2005 according to DU are the following (all must have been released in year 2005): (Please nominate only one person)

  • Movie of the Year:
  • Movie Actor of the Year:
  • Movie Actress of the Year:
  • TV Show of the Year:
  • TV Actor of the Year:
  • TV Actress of the Year:
  • Political Talk Show of the Year:
  • Fiction Book of the Year:
  • Non-Fiction Book of the Year:
  • Album of the Year:
  • Song of the Year:
  • Senator of the Year:
  • Representative of the Year:
  • Democrat of the Year:
  • Activist of the Year:
  • Most memorable event of 2005:

Didn’t have an opinion on all the categories:

Movie of the Year: King Kong
Movie Actress of the Year: Amy Adams, she’d better get the Oscar for Junebug

Political Talk Show of the Year: Bill Maher’s
Album of the Year: Ben Folds’ Songs For Silverman
Song of the Year: Todd Snider’s Beer Run, (don’t know or care if it was released in 2005)
Most memorable event of 2005: Waking up married on New Year’s Day, was single 24 hours earlier

7. Yeah, it's great. It's very dry and matter of fact, which makes it

hilarious because it's supposed to be an "almanac." It's full of charts and useful helpful facts about squirrels and our fifty states.

The list of 700 hobo names alone makes it worth a read.

9. D'oh. Well the heck with it--it gets the 05 nod anyway.
Because that's how much I like it. It's the first modern novel I've loved in a long, long time.

12. I read it a year and a half ago
And I still think about it every month. What a compelling and moving book. I cried at the end. The solidification of the Christ imagery at the end was a thing of beauty. Glad to find someone else moved by it also.
