Kissing someone of the same gender (when you're straight.)
I was talking about this with a friend the other day. Y'know what I decided it's like? As a straight female, kissing another woman is like kissing a man you are TOTALLY NOT attracted to. That's it. That's what I equate it with. Fess'up, what did you think of kissing someone of the same gender?

1. I think you've got it--never kissed another woman, have absolutely no
desire to even try it.

I guess that's similar to how gay folks feel about kissing those of the opposite gender.

2. I don't do it.
No reason why, really..I just do not kiss many people, period.

Maybe if I brushed my teeth more often.....

22. Was that before or after I kissed your wife?
But I must admit that your ass is quite tempting.

7. Well, I've gotten kissed by a girl.
A bi friend of mine decided to have some fun and randomly kissed me when I was distracted. She later found out it was my first kiss and still laughs about it.

My brain was *not* going "ew, I'm being kissed by a girl," it was more like "wait... huh?"

8. You're right on the money.
That's exactly what it's like. Kissing another woman when you're not a lesbian is like kissing a man that you are totally not attracted to.

That and other related experiences were what convinced me that sexuality is not a choice. Bisexuality was so hip in my circle of friends, and I really wanted to like women. I tried to like women as much as I like men. I made a "choice" to like women.

And it was all to no avail. They just don't do it for me. After that experience, it's hard for me to imagine how a gay person could "make" themselves like people of the opposite gender. I just don't think people work that way.

9. I think there's a bit of a double standard, men vs. women, on this.
Two straight women kissing is seen as sexy by straight men (and sometimes by straight women, themselves) and usually gets, at worst, a shake of the head or an eye roll by other straight women. Some straight women will kiss each other in clubs and at parties (for fun? to get male attention? etc.).

Two straight men kissing... well, unless it's done in an over-the-top fashion (think Bugs Bunny dressed as a girl and kissing Elmer Fudd), most straight people (men and women) don't find it sexy at all. Plenty of people find it gross.

Bicuriosity is tolerated/accepted/embraced among women much more than it is among men, for that matter. Hell, do an informal poll of your straight friends, and I'd be willing to bet that the majority -- men AND women -- would prefer a MFF threesome to a MMF threesome.

I think your analogy is apt, though -- if I'm not attracted to someone (assume I'm not repulsed by the idea of kissing them, which would be different), kissing them is kind of blah (or can be a fun physical act in and of itself, but not much more). I guess that would be true regardless of the gender of the kissee, assuming the kisser is not actually repulsed by the idea of a same-sex kiss.

11. I kiss my female friends all the time and I don't think anyone thinks
twice about it, (not deep-throat, obviously) but you're right, if we were male, there would be a definite perceived difference. Actually full-on mouth kissing, though. Left me totally cold.

13. Are you saying I'm a weirdo, LOL? I'd prefer the MMF!
While I think at times it is more acceptable to be a bisexual woman, so I agree with you there...I have to wonder about your statements about straight women and gay/bisexual men.

When I see two men kiss...eh. I think I need to see Brokeback Mountain before making a blanket statement on that. :loveya: But I certainly don't find it gross, and would much more prefer your second scenario to your first!

16. I agree with a lot of your points

I know women who will kiss and otherwise get all touchy-feely with other women solely -- or mostly -- to get men excited (I'm not assuming this but have been told so straight from the women involved). I don't think it often works the other way around: I can't really picture myself and some dude I know suddenly wrapping our muscular arms about each other as we kiss in time with the syncopated beat of the house band and our large (yet firmly gentle) hands explore the tautness of each other's...um... ...Not That There's Anything Wrong With That... :P

That's not to say that at least some straight women find the idea of two men together -- gay or not -- to be about as titillating as is the more widespread 'girl-on-girl' male fantasy...I know, for sure, that some women find it extremely erotic. But that's another story...

It sure wasn't revolting, as some straight people act like it should be.

It was just... there.

15. hmmm... well, to me kissing a man is like kissing a man...
and kissing a woman is like kissing a woman. Kissing someone I'm attracted to is different than kissing someone I'm not attracted to... but there's STILL a difference between men and women, and I would much prefer kissing a woman I'm not attracted to than a man I'm not attracted to. :) Just me.

18. How about this: One of the nicest kisses I ever had was with a guy
who later came out as gay- not bi, gay. I don't know what to make of that one!

20. I'm a straight male
And I have a straight male friend who kisses me on the cheek once in a while. And I find that pretty weird. I'm into hugging male friends, but a kiss is a bit odd. Although my Dad will occasionally give me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Hmmm...
