ORLANDO, Fla. -- A man was zapped with a Taser gun after he yelled at a judge and attempted to charge the bench, authorities said.
Timothy Cravens, 40, of Orlando, was in court last week because a radio personality for WTKS, 104.1 FM was seeking an injunction against him. Heather Boan, whose radio name is Sexy Savannah, said she received numerous e-mails from Cravens and he would often show up at the radio station and public appearances. Cravens said Boan was threatening him on air.
When Orange Circuit Judge George A. Sprinkel ordered Cravens to permanently stay away from Savannah and another station employee, Cravens shouted, "Well, you're wrong," and charged the judge's bench, records show.
After a missed first attempt, a deputy hit Cravens in the thigh with the Taser. He was handcuffed and brought back before Sprinkel.
The judge found him in contempt of court and sent him to the Orange County jail for 180 days. Sprinkel ordered a psychological evaluation and said Cravens should be held on suicide watch.
He was charged with resisting an officer without violence.
Officials with the Orange County Sheriff's Office say the stun gun had never been used before in an Orange County courtroom.
"For the most part, people going to conduct business at the courthouse are pretty civilized," said Cpl. Carlos Torres, a Sheriff's Office spokesman.
