Why do women who've lost some weight, tuck in their shirts
and sweaters, when they've still got a huge arse??? I'm actually just jealous because I've put on 20lbs (I quit smoking), and wear my shirts and sweaters out now. I'm working on it, but it's been slow and I'm getting terribly frustrated.

2. I don't know why anyone tucks in their shirts ...
(other than being "dressed up" for something).

I hate anything tucked in.

4. Because they're proud of their new waist?
Hey, good for you for quitting smoking, MsUSA! That's a big one! After the holidays, and after your body adjusts, you will be able to lose the weight. Just don't light up again. I know what you're going through.

5. I've been watching "What Not to Wear"
and they have been recommending a fitted jacket that just comes down past the waist, but no where near long enough to hide the rear, or to smooth hips. Their theory is that a pair of well fitted slacks should take care of any figure problems. For those of us who want a longer jacket, we're SOL. And don't get me started on the god-awful clothes that pass for fashion nowadays...

15. Arrrgg - my major frustration
Fortunately (or not), I'm 5'11" so I can buy men's blazers/jackets at thrift stores. Better made and more pockets. I HATE those short jackets - I definitely want something that covers my butt.

On those style shows, they're always recommending those floaty little tops that make everyone look pregnant.

\

A) they look bad on most people
B) they are going to be SO out of style shortly.

23. Not to mention the fact that many of us are no longer teenagers,
and don't want to dress like one. It was fun when I was younger, but nothing looks sillier on a 60 year old woman than wearing clothes styled for her granddaughter.

6. It is a North-South thing at all?

I've lived in both the north and south, and that was one thing both my Mom and I noticed: Most everybody in the northern states tuck, and most everybody in the southern states don't. Men and women, heavy or thin, didn't matter.

10. I'm typically a non-tucker, by choice
Unfortunately, Elvis was a rare Southern tucker....the dude dressed immaculately in custom clothing, even lounging around the house, a fact I've got to suffer for and pay big money for. :-(

9. I finally found something that works.....
I realized that what happened is after I finished working, I'd all of a sudden realize that I was hungry and that's when I'd pig out. Lots of times I hadn't really eatedn too much while I was working.

Now what I do is immediately upon quitting work, before I have the chance to binge - I have a protein drink with lots of milk. It's important to get one without sugar and low in carbs. Then, I'm full and don't have the urge to chow down.

I try to have one a few hours later before I go to bed.

Figure out when and why you go on your binges and time having a protein shake before then. Either that or have a snack that has a lot of protein in it. DON'T choose something that you really like because you might go nuts with the snack.

11. Personally, I think wearing your shirts out or a long sweatshirt makes
one look round. I think its better to show that you do have a waist, even if its bigger than you'd like.

I came to this conclusion many years ago after trying on a lot of different outfits in front of a full-length mirror.

13. Shoot
As a result of my primary career and the one I seem to be engaged in right now, I wear mostly skintight things when on the job, or at least things form-fitting around the abdomen -- you can't hide a thing in either kind. :-(

You eat lunch and it's like you're a snake that just swallowed a bolus of food.

16. It makes a more taylored look
generally-speaking. But there are exceptions.

I prefer to wear tops that look better out, because I'm short and rather short-waisted. I had back surgery as a teenager; as a result, I'm about 2-4 inches shorter than what I otherwise would have been.

Wearing my shirt with the waist in looks like I've been cut in half. The longer shirt provides more of a continous line down my body.

20. Form follows function
If working in the yard or other situation where there's dirt and vegetation and small animal bits flying around, you do not tuck, lest itchy stuff go down your pants.

If working on a car or around other machinery, you tuck, lest a wayward shirttail be snarfed up by a fan or gear or other moving thing that might render you a nickname like "Lefty."

And if you're in your house not doing anything in particular, you should be nekkid. It's the law.

21. Don't worry about the weight gain
It's quite common when you quit smoking. But, you're still healthier than you were than when you did smoke. Part of it's eating to satisfy cravings to smoke, but another is your metabolism is undergoing a big transition and it takes awhile to settle out. I think the best think to do is to increase your exercise level. If the gym is not for you, try walking (in the mall if it's cold outside) 30 minutes three or four times a week. I guarantee you'll see a big difference.

Good luck and just make the best of what you have. Being healthy should be the main goal.

22. Because I want to. Because I will wear what I want to when I
want to, and I wear what I wear (and how I wear it) because it is comfortable to me.

Not because I care what anyone else thinks. I wear my clothing for ME.

Good luck, MsUSA.
