Is putting a wreath on the grill of your giant pickup truck necessary?
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 03:25 PM by jane_pippin
On my walk back from lunch I just saw a gigantic, what looks to be new, pick up truck with a huge wreath stuck to its grill.

You want to celebrate the season, fine. Enjoy yourself. But is this entirely necessary? Must everything be adorned?

*sigh*

I guess I don't really care when it comes down to it, but I'm tired, cold, there's literally nothing to do at work, all I want to do is whine or sleep or go home, and seeing this just annoyed me for some reason.

Carry on.

1. Ah, let 'em. Doesn't hurt anything.
I hate those frickin' aircraft-carrier-sized pickups, but a wreath on the front in celebration of Christmas is perfectly okay with me. B-)

2. Yeah you're right. And like I said, I don't really care
all that much, if at all. It just made me roll my eyes when I saw it because I'm tired and cranky today.

Naptime in about 50 minutes though--I can't wait!

3. How about a different twist on this?
Maybe they hate Xmas and are driving around town running over people's lawn decorations. And the wreath got stuck to the grill.:silly:

5. No--adornment of any sort is the Work of the Devil!
Report the vile offender to the Elders so he can be chastised for observing the Popish & Pagan holiday.

6. I'm just sayin', it's a little much.
If it was a giant stuffed tweety bird doll instead of a wreath, I'd probably have a similar reaction. In fact, I know I would because I've seen that sort of thing too.

I'm a big fan of "live and let live," but when I'm really tired I get easily annoyed. (As I'm sure many of us do.)

7. Well, I'm from Houston, home of the (original) Art Car Parade.

Not to mention the Art Car Museum. www.artcarmuseum.com/

Tasteful minimalism is just NOT the style down here! (Although the Art Car Movement is gaining adherents throughout the country.)

19. Ha! Ok so THAT is a bit much--I stand corrected

We have a guy here who has his station wagon painted with bible verses, a HUGE sandwich board sign on the top as well as a loudspeaker clamped to the thing. He's been around for at least 15-20 years rollin' around town issuing procliamations to all of us.

He's just flying solo though--not part of an official parade. I like the candy car a lot more.

when he probably has a big yellow ribbon on the back.

9. Why the hell not. When your truck costs more than your house...
I say decorate the shit out of it. Put lights around the cab; put an inflatable Santa in the bed. They're going to be paying for that sucker for a decade--and at the rate the economy is going, they may be livin' in it before it's paid off.

I was trying to decide if I should decorate it.
Or just turn on my purple under-lighting.

13. Damn, people are touchy on both sides
Relax...how does somebody putting a wreath on their truck ruin your day, unless your life is so pathetic every little thing sets you off.

17. Oh come on. I never said it ruined my day.
In fact I said I really don't care when it comes down to it. I just happened to notice it and thought it was odd, I was exhausted, and thought I'd mention it. Nothing set me off, but thanks for your concern about my pathetic existence.

I also saw this sign yesterday:

"Funeral Today--Bowlers, No Parking"

If I had seen that at the time, I'd probably have posted a thought about that. But I didn't see it until later. I saw the wreathmobile first.

Merry Christmas. :hi:

dead bloody gutted deer carcasses on the hood. <shiver> I see that all too often. The wreath is a definite upgrade from that.

20. Necessary? No, of course not.
But maybe the driver shares an apartment or something and can't put a wreath on his front door. Or maybe he just likes wreaths. :)

22. While we're at it
I am sick of this trend of people putting memorials on their rear car windows. Can grief be PRIVATE anymore? Do they think they must inflict it on the rest of us? Is there that much need for attention? Go to the cemetery like everyone else.

I blame Oprah for the encouragement of our narcissistic culture.

As for the trucks with wreaths, that's just another sign we are Ancient Rome in decline.
