The transmission shop has had my car for a month now
I've been basically out of business because of my transmission for over six weeks now. Since I normally bill at $50 per hour, I'm out a LOT of money because of their incompetence. I just MAY get it back before Christmas. Possibly.

How much in lost wages should I demand from the owner? I'm thinking of going easy at $5 thou, but I'm getting more pissed off by the minute- my only backup, my sister's van, broke IT'S third transmission repair just today also. Now we're BOTH stuck until they deign to finish the job.

1. Is that the only shop in your area?
Are you kidding me? You let them keep the car that long?
You will not get anything for lost wages.Do you have a written contract that states that they would have the vehicle fixed by a certain date? Is there any penalty clause?
Shit, if it ain't ready to go in 6 days I am towing it to another shop.

(BTW- If your sisters van was "repaired" by the shop you are trying to use for your car, uh, maybe you ought to find a place to fix it properly.)

2. They broke it
by doing a half-assed job the first time. When I took it back they fixed it again. It broke the next day. They're gonna build me the best freakin' transmission in the world or I'll have 'em in court at their expense.

4. Do you really think they will get it right this time?
Why do you have so much faith in the company that can't fix your car? After six weeks you really ought to seek legal counsel.
Try posting your legal question here;

3. You might need to get some legal advice.
"Mechanic's lien" comes to mind.
