Do you buy things for yourself as you do your holiday shopping?
I was about to post and whine about how much money I had to spend on gifts for a last minute family get-together, and then I realized that I also bought a book for myself and an outfit to wear to said get-together, and it was those things that made the total more than I planned on spending. Oops.

Please tell me I'm not the only one guilty of this sort of thing.

1. I do it if I know no one else would think of getting the same thing.

6. That tends to be my rationale
Plus, everyone says they never know what to get me anyway so I guess it's even true. AND, I can't show up to my Aunt's house at Christmas looking like a ragamuffin, can I?

No, I cannot.

2. No you're not. If I am shopping, it is really hard to pass up stuff
for myself. It's bad I know, but dammit, I like to buy stuff for me too!! :P

10. I was really really bad this year.
I have a little extra money from a second job so I also got myself a digital camera for my birthday 2 weeks ago. :spank:

But it was a cheap one, paid for with birthday money, and I'd never ask my family for something that cost more than $50 (and even that makes me feel bad) so I had to get it. Right? Right?!! To take precious family pictures with, of course!

I'm so happy it's not just me, you don't even know.

3. Yes
This is gonna sound like a sob story, but I really don't have anyone to buy for me. I gave my son some money to shop for me, as well as a few suggestions, and he still insists he doesn't know what to buy.

This year I got myself a bike helmet and a stop watch. I may even buy an mp3 player for myself too. We'll see.

4. Sure, I spend on myself
while I'm getting gifts.

It's kinda unavoidable, I don't spend that much on myself normally anyway. And people rarly get me anything I would hint at, like an iPod for example, or a camera. Long story short, if there's something I really want I just get it. I can't rely on someone else anticipating my wants/needs.

21. I don't even hint at the iPod
:D

...but so far no indication that "they're" gonna get me said mp3 player.

:(

Christmas. Can't get. Here soon. Enough.

Hope you all get all that you all wanted / planned / hinted. Happy holidays!

:hi:

7. Yup.
Although my extracurricular spending tends to be on necessities (case in point: today in Target, I got some wrapping paper, some stuff for J's daughter, a tin to fill with cookies to take to J's ex-wife's house for Christmas :scared:....and dishwasher detergent and a black tank top and vegetable oil and a bunch of other crap I'm forgetting)...it does add up.

17. That's where I just came from. I just had to grab a little something
for the relatives--a necklace, a gift bag or two for some homemade gifts, whatever. But there are eight of them and with a $10 limit--man! It gets ugly.

Don't freak out too much--just try to relax, be yourself, and have the best time you can. It'll be fine. (I'm sure you already knew that though). This is sort of off topic, but I found a friend to come with on Wednesday so we can all spill our horror stories (and good ones too) together.

20. Excellent!
And Christmas should be fine...I get along with just about everyone anyhow (and the ex and I have met a few times). Still, there's always that undercurrent of tension.

Very cool about Wednesday, too! (We both should be there, barring some weird child-care snafu.)

12. Yes, and actually a lot of people do.
We're not alone. :)

My birthday is two days after Christmas, so I justify buying myself an "early birthday present" when I'm out. Yesterday I bought myself the illustrated edition of "'Salem's Lot" by Stephen King.

19. I don't know if it qualifies as a 'for myself' gift,
...but I do try to pick up something decorative for the house when I am shopping. Not all the time, but if I see something that I think is cute, or that I think the kids will like, I will get it.

25. Trust me - you are not alone
My husband means well, but he's clueless when it comes to getting me presents. Our conversations generally go something like this:

Me: "Gosh hon, I'd really like a small pair of diamond stud earrings to wear in the upper holes on my ears (I have 2 piercings in each ear and I've seen people who do this look and it's very nice). X store has a nice small pair for under $100."

Him: "Oh you don't want that."

Me: "What do mean, I just told you I did."

Him: "You know, I really want a new ."

Me: "That's nice dear. Why don't you order it so I can give it to you for . But, you know, I'm not really into your model trains. I'd like earring.

Him: "Great - I'll go order it right now."

Oy. So, now I just get things that I like and give them to him to give to me from him or the toddler.
