I'll be able to copy an mp3 downloaded from the Apple iTunes store?

1. There is a finite limit

Check your documentation for details - it should be in there.

If worse comes to worst, you can buy the song from iTunes again. It's only 99 cents a pop.

3. You can have it on 3 computers but you can rip it to a cd as many times
as you want.

If I remember correctly . . .

4. There's a limit, but there's an easy workaround.
Burn the song to a music CD. Then rip an mp3 from that. That mp3 free & clear to copy as often as you like.

6. The download is an M4A.
The mp3 format doesn't support the tags iTunes & iPods use to track the copy limitations. So if you convert it to a .wav, .aif or mp3, it loses the tags and you can copy it to as many machines or devices as you like.

9. Is it difficult to convert it from M4A to mp3?
Is there free software to do the conversion?

15. The AAC file is protected
The AAC file is protected to lock it to your computer. The easiest way to make it into an mp3 involves burning CD's unfortunately...

1 ) Make a playlist with the songs you wish to convert to MP3.
2) Burn the disc.
3) Go into Preferences. Click on the Advanced item. Click on the importing tab. From the importing popup menu, select MP3.
4) Select the newly burned CD from the Source pane on the left side of the iTunes window. Hit the import button in the upper right corner of the window.
5) Now you have mp3 versions of your song files.

12. iTunes Limits Answered
You may authorize your music to play on up to 5 computers with iTunes. If you attempt to play a downloaded song on a computer that does not have an authorization, iTunes will notify you, and, if you have not exceeded your five computer limit, will ask if you want to authorize that computer to play your tunes. Computers can be deauthorized at any time, and it is recommended that whenever you sell your computer, or take it in for service, that you deauthorize it before doing so. This is important - if your motherboard is swapped, iTunes may not recognize your machine is being authorized to play the music.

You may download the music to as many iPods as you want.

iTunes puts a limit on how many times you can burn a playlist. This limit is 7 times. This is not a big issue. If you hit the 7 burn limit on the playlist, just move the songs over to another playlist and start burning again.

13. Thanks. The deauthorizing thing sounds like a minor hassle,
but it's not completely unreasonable.

14. It's actually pretty easy to do...
You just go up to the Advanced menu in iTunes, and select "Deauthorize Computer"

If you sell your computer or it dies, and you forget to deauthorize it, you can go into your account settings in your Apple ID, get the list of your authorized computers, and delete it from there.

16. The limit only applies to playlists made up of all iTunes format music
a playlist can only be burned 7 times, but only if it's made up of tracks in the AAC format.
