My FEMAnsion Christmas Tree (photo)
Edited on Mon Dec-26-05 02:17 AM by merh

Thanks to a wonderful DUer, I have a Christmas tree. The tree's name is Woodie.

As noted by John Grisham in his NYT op/ed piece,

A FEMA trailer is too small for a Christmas tree, so those who can muster enough spirit set them outside, either under an awning or tied to the trailer hitch. Driving around in the evening, I found it heartening to see a few tiny trees and some colorful lights. They illuminated the trailers and threw dim shadows on the ubiquitous rubble. Otherwise, the nights are very dark and quiet along the Coast. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5685742

So my tree, Woodie, is outside my front door, next to my mailbox.

The lights on the tree are cows, the generous DUer wanted me to have a Farmer's Christmas in Biloxi. Thanks to the DUer, I have been able to keep the Christmas spirit and be of good cheer.

I just wanted to thank my genorous DUer friend for the tree and lights and ornaments . I also want to thank all of the DUers that have been so generous, so supportive and so loving.

You all Rock! :grouphug: :yourock: :loveya: :loveya:

4. Unfortunately, Woodie will not live too much longer.
He is a cut tree from the great state of Wisconsin.

Maybe I will bury him on the lot and hope something comes of his remains. :freak:

And yes, kudos to my tree giver. He is a kind and generous DUer that loves mystery almost as much as he loves life.

I just had to show off my lovely tree and give kudos to the DUer that helped me keep the Christmas spirit.

Of course, so many of my DUer friends have helped me by giving in so many ways. The love and support and encouragement that I have received from DUers has helped me more than I can ever explain.

Your love and support has helped me, dear friend. Thank you. :loveya: more!

That's right, unabashedly admiring Woodie (some people claim I do that all day, but it's not true...a few hours, maybe, but that's all).

Only eleven minutes of Christmas Day left here in the West, but the Christmas Spirit suddenly feels stronger than ever.

Yes, yellow cows are just the perfect thing!

Many years ago, I didn't take down the Christmas tree until March (I am a terrible procrastinator). It was a cut tree, and the needles were dry, but by the time I took it down, it had grown little pine cones!!

John Grisham, who's article mehr quoted, has set up a relief fund for Katina survivors, and he and his wife donated 5 million dollars to get it off the ground. The organization's web addy is in mehr's sig line and here: http://www.rebuildthecoastfund.org

Love to you mehr, and to Winston and to Woodie!!! :loveya:

I don't post much, but I admire so much your determination in facing an overwhelming situation. Woodie is an absolutely lovely tree. How nice of the "mystery" DUer to cheer up your Christmas!

I have lived in a travel trailer for 7 years (I moved into it because it is a very cheap way to live, and got stuck when I was laid off from my job at the time), so I know what you are going through in adapting to day-to-day living in your "FEMAnsion". All of us trailer dwellers gotta stick together!

Isn't Woodie a handsome tree.

I love trying to find storage space in my femansion, I just discovered unused space under the couch. My christmas decorations and gifts I have no need or space for now will be stored there.

I also love the fact that cleaning the femansion takes very little time and effort.

We trailer dwellers will stick together, thanks for reaching out to me. You take care too.
