1. My Sony from 2002 has a great sensor in it, and a great lens.
Of course, if they whittle away at quality, things today could be different.

But, in 2002, they were very good indeed. If not proprietary, but that's corporate america in a nutshell.

5. No, they don't.
They make some prosumer cameras with fixed lenses that bear a visual resemblance to an SLR, but unless it was just released and announced in the pats 24 hours, they don't make an actual SLR.

8. Makes you wonder, if they DID, what lenses would it use?
I mean who would Sony be willing to pay to make a complete lense system for an SLR? Sure they're willing to buy Karl Zeiss glass for fixed lense cameras, but would they be willing to go that distance for a complete lense system?

Doubtful.

4. Beware proprietary software formats.
Only Sony, Olympus, and Fuji use their own types of data storage. The rest of the industry uses "SD" format.

Think Betamax.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter, unless you want to buy more memory cards in a few years.

6. Some of the higher-end Sony stuff uses both memory stick and
compact flash, so on those ones, compatibility isn't much of a problem.
