The first time
ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the empty skies, my love,
To the dark and the empty skies.

The first time ever I kissed your mouth
And felt your heart beat close to mine
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command, my love
That was there at my command.

And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last till the end of time my love
It would last till the end of time my love

The first time ever I saw your face, your face,
your face, your face

1. That song was written by Ewan MacColl...
who was married to and worked with Peggy Seeger.

Roberta Flack's tune, which was my first exposure to the song, is quite different from the original. I'm not sure whether she changed it, or someone else did.

I think it's one of the most beautiful love songs of all time...Thanks for the earworm! :-)

2. I saw Roberta Flack live a few years ago
and the live rendition of this song was heavenly.

5. I'd rather live it than hear it. Living vicariously is not the way to be.
Living is.
