HAs anyone ever been to Zihuatanejo, Mexico?

Do you have any insights, best place to stay, i.e., beach vs. town, how far beach is from town, etc.?
I just started research for a possible Feb. trip, so all insights would be welcome. Thanks.

I would stay at the Camino Real in Ixtapa which is only 20 minutes away and rent a car to drive there or take the bus daily...the entire town is a beach...it used to be solely a fishing town..the fishing boats come in and they prepare the seafood they catch at the stands right on the beach

Ixtapa has more of a night life than Zihua does which is another good reason to stay in Ixtapa... Zihua is still a quaint little town

Also, Ixtapa has numerous reasonable and clean hotels...Zihua has very few and since this is the season they will be expensive....heck the one I stayed at several years back La Casa Que Canta is now about 400 bucks a night

now if you are INTO fishing, you can get a chartered boat in Zihua and have the time of your life...lotsa good eats down there

Isn't that the town in the movie "The Shawshank Redemption" where our hero escapes to? Tim Robbins.....and Morgan Freeman, too...
