1. Scrapple's image link contains an illegal code.
I think we all know why.

3. Isn't fugu also specially prepared puffer fish?
The stuff where the blood is a powerful neurotoxin, kills a human almost instantly?

7. Yes, hence the "deadly" tagline.
Only licensed chefs are allowed to handle fugu.

4. What I want to know is, who "discovers" these delicacies?
"Hey, Olaf, it's Ingomar. Do you still have that bucket of lye? Because I just caught some fish, and I'm looking for something to boil them in."

"Hey, Tukra, are you going to eat that sheep head? Because if you're just gonna throw it out... I mean, I'd eat it if you didn't want it."

"Yoshi, try some fugu... it's what killed my mom!"

6. A question about Hufu?
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 01:59 AM by haruka3_2000
Who the hell figured out how to make human from tofu? I mean, I always firmly believed that you can make anything taste decent out of soy, with the exception of cheese, but HUMAN?!?!?!

In a sick way, I kind of want to try it though.

8. May I nominate a few more?
Surströmming: fermented hering. The smell is usually described as "a mixture of rotten fish, garbage and sewage".

andouillettes: Tripe sausages. Tripe not just as a casing, but also for the sausage proper.

10. I'm not above trying it,
but it looks like a turd warpped in a condom. Sometimes, presentation is the key. :)

11. "partially fertilized duck egg" - how, exactly?
Partially?

Is that like "sorta pregnant?"

12. I stand corrected. They're boiled, not fermented.

14. That is extremely interesting - they are nutritious!
And they only take the eggs that aren't developing at normal speed.

13. You chose some good food, mostly :)
Smalahove, Criadillas, Scrapple, Haggis are fine with me. Wouldn't want to taste anything human-tasting (how in hell did they find out how human tastes????!), nor grubs. Andouillettes are sooooooooooo goooooood!

16. I almost became vegetarian after compiling this poll.
I don't want my meal to look or smile back at me. In fact, I'd rather eat the hufu, and I'm not even a cannibal.

17. Ah, well, don't ever forget that meat means "animal". Eat
little and with respect. Meat isn't something that originally comes frozen in plastic bags. If you want to eat it you can see it in its original state, which includes heads and stomachs. I think it would be a shame to throw those parts away. If animals have to be killed don't waste any parts, at least. Moreover ANY part of an animal (well ok, no manes or hooves/horns for me) can be tastily prepared.

20. you forgot durian. and fermented fungus. and silkworm.
in fact, there's a lot missing here. there's a lot of disgusting vegetables, fungi, and fruits, as well. oh, and a few pungent fermented products like certain dairy products (fermented mare's milk with floating chunks of curd...) and several other insect products that can definitely go in.

pss: a lot of what's shown here is quite delicious. except for tripe, that stuff disgusts me. ewww, so chewy! and i like octopus! O_o

but balut's disgust factor is hard to top.

22. Um...that list actually makes the lutefisk look GOOD...
comparatively speaking.

I saw a television show on other cultures' customs and taboos, and there was a segment on the balut. Yuuu-uuuck!

23. I usually win the "horrible things you had to eat as a kid" with
czarnina. Nothing like duck blood soup after a tough day at school.
