My oldest son is in a WAR..
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 01:09 AM by SoCalDem
The "war" of the snazziest yard ornaments.. His neighborhood is going all-out, and while we were up there for Xmas, we drove around the neighborhood, and actually heard our son utter". Oh my GOD Leslie(his wife), Tony has the Kneeling deer, AND the 2 foot candy cane..DAMN!".. about 3 hours later, the friend stopped by to tell them how "nice" their yard looked, and then asked when they were "putting up the REST" of the lights & decorations...

My husband and I were rolling.. This is our "over achieving yuppie son", and now it's moved beyond restored mustangs and BIG trucks...into the realm of Christmas...The competition..

When most people were out looking for after christmas exchanges & bargains, we were scouring the stores for the 7 1/4 diameter, 150-light super spheres, and the 10" glass iridescent hanging orbs....

We told him to be sure and send us a copy of his electric bill :P

1. The other day I saw an inflatable Santa on a Harley
in someone's yard. Maybe he should get one of those... :D

2. All I can say is Thank Goodness his yard is not all that big
eventually he will have to "say enough"..:) Hias yard does look nice is you are into that sort of thing.. We have not even had a TREE in about 10 years, and the lights we had, we gave to him (that's what started the whole thing)...we had tons of those c-9 lights (the OLD onhes)

3. Here's a link to a story
about a guy near us who goes beyond the beyond every year:

4. Of all the silly things
to play one-upmanship about, I think this is about the silliest. It's like "I have more Christmas spirit than you," but it's not really about Christmas spirit at all. :eyes:

The first year I moved to this town, we got a note in the mailbox (anonymously, of course) a week or so before Christmas "rating" us as "Scrooges" because we didn't have any lights up. Even if we'd known there was a "competition," we still wouldn't have played.

This is their first house, and they just got caught up in the silliness of decorating.. and they happen to have enough money to indulge their fun.. I have a feeling that when they try to store all this stuff as it piles up, they will cut waaay back.:)

6. That is an absolute hoot.
Good for them! A 'competition' like this is fun for everyone.

We used to have a similar one on Halloween with my friend across the street, but she moved. We had the 8 foot Frankenstein on the roof, the whole 9 yards.

The kids loved it. It was a lot of fun.

7. SoCal, this sounds like a movie plot...
It would make a wonderful movie! Has your son seen "Christmas With the Kranks?" He has to rent it--your post made me think about it.

:hi: Season's Greetings to you and the rest of the SCD family.
