Can anyone help me price a truck?
my husband's vehicle is almost ten years old. He's found a "new" 2005 that he says he'd be happy with. Yes. it is a Ford, F150, full cab. At some point it will be the main transportation for the four of us (2 kids), and yes he uses a truck bed pretty frequently.

It's listed at $29,000, with a $5,000 rebate. how much more should i ask the dealer to drop the price? I don't mind the dealer and salesman making a decent profit, but it is a 2005.

1. check out Kelly Blue Book
Just type blue book in google and then choose your vehicle. I've found it helpful in pricing two vehicle I want to sell and one I want to buy.

3. You should get a decent discount at the end of the year
dealers are trying to get inventory off the lot for tax purposes.
Are there other dealers in the area? Sometimes you can get them to underbid each other.

4. Go here and look for the model and options, etc.

http://www.edmunds.com/

Their TMV (true market value) was accurate within $100 when I bought my Nissan a few years back.

Just click on "truck" in the orange section and follow it on through. It gives very accurate info.

Also, a little tip . . . NEVER base your bargaining on the MSRP, base it on the dealer invoice. At year end, and if they're eager to make a sale, you can often ofter a tiny amount over invoice and get the price you ask for.

7. Most banks loan against the NADA value
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 01:13 PM by cfield
at least where I'm from. You can go to nada.com and get an idea. I'll run it real quick just based off the year and give you a rough guess on retail vs loan value. Be right back!

On Edit: (I work at a bank) What we would base loan/retail value at is:
On a Ford F150 Supercab V8 Flareside 4x4, retail in the Texas region is $26,350 and loan value is $20,700. Of course these are approximate and would vary depending on mileage, condition, etc. Hope this helps!

8. Tell your husband to get a truck with a diesel engine
That way you can save yourselves some money by making your own biodiesel and burning it. That is one sure way to take the sting out of 15mpg.
