My cat was just hit by a car
I'm in total shock. He's an indoor cat that accidentally got let out last night. We couldn't find him and I kept calling him until finally at three in the morning he came wobbling up with tire marks on his back and an extremely swollen face and bleeding eyes. He doesn't look good at all. My mom is taking him to the vet, but I fear he may have to be put to sleep.

I'm so sad right now. Good thoughts, vibes, or prayers would be appreciated. :(

6. The Vet will know the right thing to do
I'm so sorry he got hurt.

I can understand his sneaking out though - I have a male indoor cat who occasionally rushes out when the door is opened. My cat is very afraid of cars and avoids the street, but I try to keep him inside all of the time anyway. He's not tough enough for the big bad world outside.

I'm sending positive vibes your way . . .

You have given him a chance, though, by continuing to call him last night - if you hadn't gotten him in at 3, he'd certainly be dead; at least now he's been able to see you and know you were there for him no matter what.

I hope he's OK.

22. Prayers for your kitty.
Years ago I found a stray tortie who had been hit badly by a car. Broken leg, eyeball popped out, most teeth smashed, jaw knocked lopsided. To top it off, she had just gotten pregnant.

Well, not only did she survive but the five kittens were born healthy a short time later. I had her for the next 13 years and if it weren't for her empty eye socket and occassional drooling you'd never know she'd been hurt. She was happy, healthy, confident, loyal, tough and full of life.

The fact your cat was still able to walk and knew where to go is a good sign. It's amazing how much trauma these animals can take. A cat's inherent onriness combined with good vet care & a lot of love can go long way.

I have a good feeling that years from now you'll be talking about this cat (with him on your lap) and how he used up one of lives in this episode

25. Jared, cats are amazingly tough animals.
My cat, when she was a kitten, was bitten on her head by my schnauzer. Blood poured from her eyes and nose. I took her to the vet. She was battered up, for sure, but she came through it with no problems, and is now a year-and-a-half bitch kitty.

I'll say a prayer for your little cat. Please let us know how he's doing.

27. Don't give up hope yet
Cats are incredibly resilient creatures, and can bounce back from some serious punishment. The kitty that I had in my childhood went through a car fan and recovered from that(among many many other incidents). That your cat was concious and walking is a good sign, and swelling will decrease.

Good thoughts and prayers for your kitty's health and recovery.

30. This works for me.
To reduce or eliminate shock and to bring back vital healing, see him and you in separate spheres of gentle, golden flames. You may see/ feel movement or feel things shifting, or not. Whatever you get is a reflection of what you're going through or are holding. You only need spend short periods of time, say, 30 seconds or so per try, to affect great clearing and healing. This works no matter what we put on it.

46. Update:
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 05:45 PM by jaredh
The docs are monitoring him right now. The vet said he thinks it may just be a badly injured sinus that caused his face to swell up and that he would probably get pneumonia from the the drainage. He probably at least has a minor concussion and could possibly (worst case scenario) have brain hemorrhaging. The docs are going to watch him for another 24 hours and then attempt to drain blood from his face and lungs. Hopefully, he'll come out of this whole ordeal without any permanent damage.

Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes. It really means a lot.

Morris (that's the name of our cat) suffered no brain damage or permanent injury. He does have a broken jaw and has to have it wired for one month and also has to take a course of antibiotics to combat pneumonia. He'll be coming home tomorrow and I can't tell you how happy and relieved I am.

Now you get to deal with the healing process. Bottlefeeding a cat is no fun, hope you have a blender and a strong stomach. Oh, and when Morris is feeling better, but with the jaw still wired, you will be treated to some of the most ear piercing serenades as Morris expresses his displeasure. Also watch out for him trying to take the stiches out on his own. Enjoy!

Glad to hear all will be well, and all the best to you and Morris!
