Question about menu planning
Maybe you guys can help me. My GF and I want to start cooking more at home because we spend too much money in resturants. However we never know what to buy in the grocery store. Is there a website that can help you plan a weekly menu and maybe even spit out a grocery list? Thanks.

2. Thanks
I have to confess I was looking for something web based so that we could just choose from recipes on a web site and it would spit out a menu and maybe even a shopping list. But I appreciate you looking for me. Thanks.

3. Here's what you want
http://www.dinnerplanner.com/menu.htm

I have a friend who uses it. You get an email with the whole next week's menu and a fully completed shopping list.

10. Free. . .
http://www.usda.gov/cnpp/Pubs/Cookbook/thriftym.pdf

Scroll down - to the recipes, and then there's a "shopping list".

Between that, and maybe just a few months of the "pay recipe service" - you can develop some ideas, flesh out a basic pantry - and then use the planners in the first couple of links I gave you earlier.

6. The first thing you should buy...
is a cookbook! :)

Seriously, though, you can pick up a secondhand copy of "The Joy of Cooking" at pretty much any used book store, and it has ALL the basic instructions for everything.

Also, there is a book I really like called "Tassajara Cooking" by Edward Espe Brown. It's vegetarian, but the thing I like about it is that it's about the PHILOSOPHY of cooking. The Zen of cooking, if you will. It's not about recipies but about making choices with food, experimenting, and learning about what goes with what. It's a wonderful book, sort of written in a narrative style.

And then you can do your own menu planning! :P Actually, I sit down every Sunday and, with the help of my trusty cookbooks, plan my menus for the week. It's sort of fun!

7. I'll second that.
"The Joy of Cooking" can be an interesting way
to learn cooking. Another of the many good cookbooks
is "The Fannie Farmer Cookbook.
I use mine at least twice a week.
