Vegan Woman Gets Skinned Goat's Head Left On Her Porch
i for one would like to know the whereabouts of DS1 at the time

<snip>

In what police believe was a holiday prank, a young woman unwrapped a gift box left on her Palos Heights porch last week to find a skinned goat's head, officials said Tuesday.

The 18-year-old woman, whom police declined to identify, found the box wrapped in Christmas paper about 1:40 p.m. Thursday on her front porch in the 12300 block of 76th Avenue, authorities said. The woman found no blood on the box.

"We think it was a distasteful prank," Palos Heights Police Detective Adam Nagy said. "That's the thought we have right now."

The woman told police that the only rationale she could think of for the heartless gift was her eating habits, Nagy said. She told investigators she is a vegan, a vegetarian who avoids all animal products.

Even though the goat's head looks like the work of pranksters rather than mobsters, police are taking the investigation seriously, Nagy said, and were trying to lift fingerprints from the package.

Authorities said they did not know if any local farms were missing a goat.

DS1 was apparently at an orientation meeting for the polyamourous pod with rbnyc, her hubby, Lynnesin, GOPisEvil, NSMA and your sister-in-law.

You and I were not invited, - we may need to form our own pod.

3. Why are so many meat-eaters so fucking threatened by vegans?
I simply don't get it.

What is it about vegetarianism that drives some meat-eaters into insanity and feelings of being somehow threatened?

For fuck's sake.

Veganism is a form of self-control. Some people find that threatening.

15. Most meat eaters don't feel guilty. I don't!
I think it is just anger. Some people are angry people and they want to take it out on people they don't agree with. I think it is silly and cruel!

23. Obviously not acknowledged, dealt-with guilt
but I absolutely think there is guilt there in many and possibly even most cases. Unexamined it often manifests itself as hostility or defensiveness.

26. Ok! I guess I can see why you feel that way, but honestly,
I don't feel guilty about eating meat. I do love animals. I love them enough to give up meat possibly, but I still feel no guilt about it. I was raised to put aside feelings for animals (not cruelty, but you know what I mean) when it comes to eating. But I am not here to argue with you, just wanted to see what you meant by guilt. :)

28. Just like vegetarians are angry because they don't get proper nutrition?
Oh you don't feel that way? Well, it's obviously not an acknowledged, dealt-with anger. Unexamined it often manifests itself as hostility or defensiveness.

Broad stereotypes and prejudice don't really become either group, I think.

31. More people should take prejudice and stereotypes personally
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 05:18 PM by jpgray
Because it's a way of doing violence to both the human race and rational thought at once, and I like to think I partake of each in some small way. Therefore I of course take it personally, and I wish more people would.

:D

After all, it's prejudice and stereotyping that probably put that head on her porch to begin with.

While I think those meat-eaters who feel the need to enact violence on the vegans might be suffering from guilt (though they're more likely suffering from emotional immaturity and an inability to differentiate their personhood from their desires/interests), one cannot broadly brush all meat-eaters as suffering from guilt, especially to say that it's mostly unacknowledged guilt. That's just bullshit.

So I'm going to say that vegans are all homosexual pedophiles who lust after their mothers. Oh, sure, it might not manifest itself, but we all know that, secretly, deep down, that's what they are, even though they haven't acknowledged it yet.

I have no problems at all about what people do or do not eat. It's the holier-than-thou bullshit that spews from some of them that is annoying. Along with the persecution complexes.

36. Right, and you're not prosecuting veg* folk, either.
I think that the question was in regards to why SOME folks that do eat meat feel the need to screw with vegetarians/vegans.

42. I'm sure that there are at least a few reasons.
I agree, the "not like me thing" is definitely a possibility for why some act as such. Of course, that's also in the reverse. I'm sure that there are veg* folk that act like total assholes towards meat eaters for the same reason. I also do know for a fact, from personal experience, that "guilt" so to speak can also be a reason. With this prank, as I said earlier, was probably done by some asshat guy that's not getting any from this girl (or, maybe to get her attention in an immature "pulling of the pigtails on the playground" sort of way). Maybe it was a dare...frat prank... Maybe she's an activist that stepped on the toes of the owner of a local fur store, and this is his/her way of payback.

So many possibilities. So many sad reasons for people to be mean to each other.

I agree that it was probably pranksters taking a break from their masturbathon, pissed off because the 18 year old woman probably wouldn't give them the time of day. 30-1 odds it's someone she knows fairly well.

I haven't had goat's head since the last time I visited Mexico, and here these idiots go and waste it on a prank. And not a very good prank either.

You want to eat mat? Fine. Eat meat. You want to be a vegan? Fine. Be a vegan; it's a free country.

I have nothing but contempt for people who go out of their way to exploit another person's deeply held sensibilities.
