1. You are not signed in as the administrator if you receive that error.
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 03:58 PM by Misunderestimator
You need to logoff and log back on as the administrator. Hopefully you know the administrator ID and password. If not, it is probably the default something like "Admin"/BLANK or "Admin"/"Password". Normally, the default password is BLANK (no password). One of your manuals should have this info.

3. Just log off and log back in again, but change the user to "admin"
and don't enter a password. See if that works.

Did you buy it new? Is it a personal computer, or does it belong to your workplace?

If you were able to log in as Admin and you still have the error, I really have no idea. What specifically is the error you receive? You could search for an occurrence of the error message itself through google and see what you need to do to remedy it. Lots of good sources on error messages like that around.

20. ET Awful's post #9 explains what you need to do.
I'd take his word for it. :)

9. For most versions of Windows, the following will work . . .
Either log-off or switch user (depending on Windows version)

Log back on as Administrator (the default administrator login is "Administrator" not "Admin").

Try doing the install again.

If this does not work, go to your control panel (usually under Start, then Settings, then Control Panel) From there, on Windows 2000, go to administrative tools then computer management, and add your user name to the "Administrators" group. In XP, go to User Accounts, then click on User Accounts within that window. Then click on the Advanced tab, then the Advance button. Do the same thing as for 2000, add yourself to the Administrators group.

Then try installing again.

11. Click "User Account" within that window.
Then you should see another box pop up with two tabs in it, one says Users, one says Advanced. Click Advanced, then click the Advanced button halfway down the page under that tab.

If you can't get to Advanced at all, then you aren't actually logged in as Administrator.

14. Well, policies are really only used for a domain.
In this case, you just need to be a member of the proper group.

23. Not on my machines.
I'm all out of ideas to tell you where to look. If I had your machine in front of me, I could probably figure it out, but I'm not sure where to tell you to look now. Sorry.
