1. Ms. Right.
Ever since finding DU I have been enthralled by the idea of finding Ms. Right on here. I've sure met some lovely women on here. This is where the best women hang out, btw.

There is a rather lovely woman I work w/ that I'd love to introduce to you. Wish you were closer!

20. I do too.
I'd be happy to just leave NC alive at this point. I have some more time in school thhough. Another year and I'll be ready to hit the pavement in search of a job. Please help me wish for one outside this area so I can be free. I'm so tired of living this rural boring prudish lifestyle. For a lesbian, I sure don't have one of the "lifestyles" many fundies talk about. I only WISH it was that exciting.

23. You haven't figured out yet
that the "gay lifestyle" fundies talk about is pure BS? (In fact 99% of what they talk about is pure BS)

The gay lifestyle is basically the same as the straight lifestyle, except the sex is a bit different, we aren't allowed to get legally married in 49 states, we can't legally adopt in many states, we can legally be fired for being gay in a good number of states, we are at risk of being verbally/physically assaulted at any time, and even at risk of being killed just for being gay.

Gee, maybe the gay lifestyle isn't so similar to the straight lifestyle after all.

Geez, are we dead people walking or what?

Don't worry though. We got each other.

27. We are walking targets
But I'll be damned if I'm going to hide in a closet just because a bunch of hate-mongers think I don't have the right to exist. I am what I am. I was born that way and if they don't like that they can go f*ck themselves. I'll not hide or change who I am just to mollify them.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

31. Oh Sappho, be still my beating heart.
Take me now. Damn, you are good.

You would love my post in the "home alone at night" thread. Let's team up. Maybe we can accomplish more that way. I'm serious. Let's try to start a 501-3c type organization and empower lesbians all over the country. I don't know how to get one started. I wonder if anybody here has any experience with that.

35. I don't know anything about 501-3c organizations
But anything that would help lesbians would be good in my book.

But to be frank, that post you mentioned speaks of revenge. I'm not into revenge myself, though I believe in necessary self-defense. I understand the impulse for revenge, but believe that it merely perpetuates the cycle of violence and leads to more hate.

38. I was with a 501 (c) (4) organization for years
The differences are small, but critical.

If you want to start one, one thing you need is a CPA or tax attorney to file the paperwork for your non-profit status. But I'd draw up a plan of action first.

40. I hate to tell this story..
But, I think it is relevant.

When I was about 8 years old my cousin was babysitting me. He had a few friends come over to the house and they wanted to go mug people at gunpoint for money. This was in a small town about 20 miles outside of Eugene, Oregon. Eugene is probably one of the most gay friendly towns in the USA.

They drove into town with me in the cab of the truck, my cousin behind the wheel, and two guys with loaded shotguns and ski-masks lying down in the bed of the truck. They thought the gay bar near the bus terminal was the best place to rob people (people coming out of the gay bar). And you had to walk down a dark alley to get to the parking lot from the bar. So, they would drive up and the people in the bed of the truck with shotguns would force someone into the back of the truck where they would be held down, robbed, and dropped a few miles out of town.

They did this a few times that night.. Wow, that was 20 years ago. I called the guy a redneck piece of shit a few years ago at my sisters wedding. Booze and my fathers side of the family don't go well together.

41. I can see why they'd choose such a target
Hidden away from view. And gays, particularly back then, are less likely to report crimes as they don't want the publicity. They don't want to be outed, and they don't like the "blame the victim" mentality that goes along with any crime committed against them. That makes it far less likely that the perps will be caught.

Sad world we live in. I'm glad you didn't follow in your cousin's footsteps.

34. I know what you mean.
They talk shit about single moms without regard to the men that left the mom's single. Have you noticed that about attitudes in general. If a woman is single and has a kid, it's considered evil. If a man is doing the same thing, he's patted on the back and considered a hero practically.

The same thing goes with a lot of other gender disparities. If a woman works hard to work her way up the totem pole and make more money, she is called a bitch, but if a man does the same thing he is considered a great leader and a great businessman. Same thing goes with sex. If a women enjoys sex, she gets called names, yet a man is EXPECTED to brag about how much they like it. The double standards list goes on and on.

Maybe you should have titled this poll, "for single women who are looking"? Not all single people are even interested in dating in this sorry, fucked up, hateful society.

Most people I meet on the street, and I live in a blue state where the average adult has a 30% chance of having completed college, are total assholes. I have zero hope that the kind of male who could be in the only kind of relationship I would find acceptable (ie; one of equanimity) even exists. A relationship would just slow me down. Most sad, pathetic, juvenile versions of "love" I've seen are...sad. Pathetic. Juvenile. And fucking over a woman's ability to develop, persevere and make herself happy. What a waste. Maybe when Patriarchy or misogyny are on the run, I'll consider it.

But good luck with your hunting and fishing in the new year, DU women! Don't settle for any assholes, please. Stay safe, and self-respecting.

15. Why do you think I'm still single?
As I said, I have no interest in the "typical American guy." I like 'em with a wide-ranging intelligence, a subtle sense of humor, leftish views, the ability to stay in a relationship even when real life intrudes (one of the most common failings--I know so many women who were abandoned when they or their children became seriously ill), a sense of spirituality, and no rigid ideas about gender roles.

Such men do exist, and in greater numbers than one would think, but they seem to have all gotten married before the age of thirty, and being such gems, they are still married.

at 50, i have pretty much given up on finding anyone of substance and am actually quite happy just being by myself. i've been married and divorced twice and not looking to be a three time loser. i've come to the conclusion that i just don't make good choices in men, so it's probably best not to make any more choices at all. assholes not allowed and i'm just not looking anymore. life is good anyway.

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where’s the street-wise hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and dream of what I need

I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ’til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ’til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life...

Or at least he's gotta wear a white cape.

So jump right in...Ain't no sin
Take a ride in my machine

Drop the pedal and go...go...go

Goin' ridin' on the freeway of love
Wind's against our back
Goin' ridin' on the freeway of love
In my pink Cadillac...
