Tonight I served the most acerbic comic of days gone by...
Don Rickles.

Guess what?

He was very nice. Very polite. Very pleasant. He kidded a bit so you wouldn't forget he was Don Rickles, but he was a big sweetheart of a guy.

I showed him my world-famous Soda Can trick (I can cup my hand and hold a soda can on so tight it's very hard to pull it off) and he asked me if I wanted to come to Vegas and be his opening act.

1. How cool is that?!
It sounds like an unforgettable encounter. And the soda can trick was a nice touch.

3. "Mr. Warmth" ?
Isn't that the sarcastic nickname that some used for him back in the day?

I hear he still does a killer act in Vegas for those lucky enough to get a ticket.

I hope he called you a "hockey puck" -- they can't take that away from you ever.

4. No, no hockey puck
But the fact that he took a few minutes to joke around with me ranks high on my Cool-O-Meter.

5. "If I were to insult people and mean it, that wouldn't be funny"
Just reading up on his bio on imdb. Pretty awesome that he's still married after forty years.

6. My mom hates him...
She thinks he's snarky and rude. Can't wait to tell her what he was like when I met him. I doubt it'll change her mind, though. At least she'll be more informed.
