I just evacuated our house! Major Flooding in Marin Cty, CA! H20 rising !
Hey Duers in California - Pachamama here....I'm sitting in my car w/ my laptop and tapped into the local schools wireless server. We just evacuated our house in Ross, CA at 5:30AM....Water was rising fast in the creek behind our house....We tried to get as much stuff to higher ground in the house and got all important docs and our laptops, grabbed the kids and took off.

When we left the house, the water was up to our house about a foot and rising....we drove up the hill to a school and are sitting here with strong winds blowing and rain coming down everywhere...the kids are scared and atleast I brought some food along...but we have no idea what to do next...or where to go....We are just going to stay put here till daylight breaks soon, but the rain isn't supposed to stop and when we left the water was rising so fast we can't go back. Atleast we are on higher ground...

Anyone know good sites for weather and local flood advisory and reporting? And, if any of you DUers are in Marin County or the Bay Area, start preparing....take things to higher ground in your house and start planning to get out of there. I woke up this morning at 2:30 and the creek in a matter of 3 hours went over 60 feet towards our house. It rose 8 feet and is still rising....

2005 has really sucked hasn't it....and it can't leave us without a big eff you to more people....Hopefully 2006 will be better....:eyes: Can anyone say "Global Climate Change is here to stay?"

4. Is there someone you can contact... local authorities... to let them
know where you are? The rain is supposed to continue through MONDAY according to forecasts I've read. Please let someone else know where you are in case the water rises that far. Take care... please.

5. Contact the police and ask them if shelters have been set up.
Please take care, Pachamama, I am glad you got out, trying to get to safety in rising waters is not fun.

Let us know how you are doing. I would bet the Red Cross has set up a shelter and/or will be setting up one, maybe even at that school if it is on high ground.

My prayers are with you and yours. :grouphug:

9. I'm glad she is getting support from DUers in GD
Edited on Sat Dec-31-05 12:01 PM by merh
The support really helps when you are going through something like this. It helps to stay connected to folks outside of the disaster, I know.

11. It's nasty up there, gang
Russian and Napa rivers will rise six to 10 feet above flood level by tomorrow, says NWS via KCBS in San Francisco. :scared:

Not nearly so bad down here. Lotta rain and wind and the power keeps going out, and I discovered a leak in my roof that was re-sealed less than two years ago. :grr:

If you're the prayin' kind, y'might wanna think about it for the NorCalers.

I think he said last night he was getting ready to evacuate. God, I hope he's okay.

It's not bad here, just wind and rain. I started to post this a few minutes ago and got derailed by the third power failure of the morning. :grr:

22. Update
NWS reports the Russian River is expected to rise to 14 feet above flood level by 2 p.m. Sunday.

Lotta little towns along that river: Guerneville, Healdsburg, Cloverdale, Ukiah.

I'm looking that area up right now. The little towns, from my experience, can't handle major floods. That's gonna hurt the local economy.

38. Yep, the flood sale at Mervyn's should be pretty good.
They showed aerial footage on KPIX and it looks like one roof edge just peeled away from end to end.
There is apparently flooding somewhere in Walnut Creek (maybe the Lakewood area, not clear) but Kaiser should be fine sitting above those big storm drains that control the creeks under downtown.

39. Inland Alameda is the same as Contra Costa in terms of this storm
Edited on Sat Dec-31-05 03:37 PM by Gormy Cuss
Bullwinkle925 is away from the coast and not far from the Contra Costa line as I recall. Unless she lives in a low spot or very near an unmanaged creek she should be fine. It's been nasty but we aren't getting anywhere the rain that hit Marin and other areas north of here.

On edit: by nasty I mean those winds that make you wonder if the roof's about to come off and rain pouring sideways plus thunder just for a few more chuckles. It was that way all night and earlier this morning. Now it's just raining.:o
