Any useful advice on packing for a trip to S Germany in a few days?

Girlfriend is visiting her sister, brother-in-law and baby nephew in Heidelberg for the 12 days starting Sunday. She's a little nervous about what clothes to pack. I gave her the usual boring advice on being able to dress in layers, since it might be relatively cold (we're in South Carolina) or it might be fairly temperate. Also to wear ugly, comfortable shoes. Any more detailed advice? Paging MissHoneychurch!:)

2. Thanks, I think she's got that one covered.

Anyway, visiting family, it's a lot easier to borrow an umbrella than say, visiting youth hostels. Useful suggestion, though, thanks!

4. Lots of great stuff to see in that area

I lived in Bad Kreutznack for two years, its near there.
Nearly every city has a beautiful old church or two, well worth visiting if you like architecture or history.
Visit the castle on the hill overlooking Heidelberg. If you can, get out and visit some wineries.

Dont pack anything electrical, as all the outlets there are 220 volt.
Exchange your money at a bank, not the airport. Try to carry at least some cash around as most smaller vendors do not take credit or debit cards, at least not as readily as here. Especially the smaller resteraunts.

5. Put her clothes in resealable plastic bags for ease going through

customs. The ideal are those which you can squeeze the air out of to make less bulk. Don't take too may clothes.
