Since when did I lose the ability to sleep by myself?
My husband left town yesterday, forcing me to spend the night all by my lonesome for the first time in a long time. I was ok until it was time to go to bed, at which point I became absolutely petrified.

I swear on everything holy, the house makes sounds that it never makes when my hubby is home. It sounds like someone is walking around upstairs...even when I am upstairs.

When the *&^$# did I become such a wuss?

Was it the four years I spent in a sorority, where we all slept in one big room called a “sleeping porch” together? Was it then that I became accustomed to the sound of 50 other women sleeping around me?
Has it been the 2 years that I have been married and sleeping next to a snoring hunk of man meat every night?

I actually slept with a nightlight on last night.

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

1. I'm not that bad
but I notice the difference between the nights that my daughter crawls in bed w/ me and the nights(few and far between) that I actually get to sleep alone.

If I sleep alone I wake up often, check on her and catch myself tossing and turning all night long. If she sleeps w/ me the sounds of her soft snores put me right to sleep.

I sleep with the tv on and my bedroom door shut and locked. I never was like that before.

3. My bedroom door doesn't lock.
Or believe me, I would have barricaded myself in my bedroom.

4. *RING**
the calls are coming from INSIDE THE HOUSE!!

Just kidding they tapped into the line outside of the house.

We just moved into a house in the 'burbs last May (was it?) and I am still spooked by not having someone around who could hear if I were to yell. I guess I got used to living in apartment buildings. I don't want to even talk about the attic....

5. I had to call my hubby
and have him verbally "tuck me in" as well as reassure me that he has heard the house make crazy sounds too. :)

6. A quick check of locked doors...
...lights on in strategic areas, the Weather Channel going, baseball bat next to the bed and I'm set. Just doing what's necessary to make ME feel better about being in my own house at night!

7. Oh, yes.
I have a gun, and I actually pull my gun out when my husband's gone. I also lock my bedroom door so that I have time to get to my gun before someone would be able to get into the bedroom. I usually have the bathroom fan on at night for white noise. When I'm alone, I turn it off so that I am more aware of my surroundings.

:scared:

8. Picture that with kids
After the obsessive-compulsive checking and re-checking all door and window locks, then you get to lie there mentally planning all escape routes for all emergencies.

I think I should just get a big dog. ;)
