I'm scared----I need hugs today......

At 2:30 I have to go to the doctor to have a series of shots in my back. I have a "floating rib" problem. The last rib on my back on the right hand side overlapped with the one above it during surgery for a burst appendix. It stayed that way for over eight months. I went to the doctor two weeks ago and took naproxen for ten days for the swelling, which was holding the rib in that position. The swelling went down enough for the rib to move back to it's correct position, but the swelling won't go completely away. I feel stiffness there all the time, and if I sneeze or yawn, I get a sharp pain there.
So, I am going to get four different shots there that is supposed to reduce the swelling and one of the shots is a nerve blocker. I will also get some shots to numb the area, but I've heard that these shots can still be painful.

And you live in Michigan now, so I know you can do it. Think positive, like how great it will be when it's over. And tell the doctor that you're scared - just saying it helps.

The shots can sometimes hurt a bit, but it's not a big deal. If you don't watch the shots go in it's not so bad.

But look at it this way - by going to the doctor, you're on your way to becoming pain-free. And whatever pain you have to temporarily endure, it will lead to being pain-free and healthy once again.

Needles aren't a fun experience for anyone. :hug:

Spoil yourself with something afterwards (dinner from your favorite restaurant, splurge on something, etc.). Then you'll have something positive to visualize when the "ouch" time comes.

I'tll be over quick. As the doc if he/she can give you a local anesthetic (rub the area w/something to numb it first) before getting the shots.

I had the same problem and didn't get any injections or have it last for 8 months. It was resolved within 2 visits/5 days.

I am SO sorry for your pain, because I SURELY KNOW how much that hurts. There isn't a SINGLE position short of your arm up over your head with your other leg tossed up and bent. I know, I know.. how awful.

moved back into place after taking naproxon for 10 days. But, the swelling is still there. That is what the shots are for.
I'm leaving now to go get the shots. Cross your fingers for me.:pals:
