I hate DVDs that keep playing the same little ditty at the main menu
Edited on Sat Mar-04-06 02:16 PM by Rabrrrrrr
I was listening to music in my multi-disc CD/DVD player, and it played through all the CDs and has now come to a ST:TNG DVD, and I'm too lazy to get up becauase i was writing and in the middle of a thought, and now I've had to listen to that goddamn main menu music about 100 times in a row.

I'm so glad that the later seasons of The Simpsons DVDs have their discs stop playing the music after four or five times through, and then going silent.

And it's not just ST:TNG that does this. The ST:TOS are annoying, and pretty much every movie I own does the same damned thing.

3. Ain't that the truth - remember when one could go shopping,
or to a restaurant, and not have to listen to music? Or if we did, it was very quiet muzak.

I've noticed that pretty much ALL the chain restaurants are constant noise. Malls pump music through the whole place, too - and they are already noisy as fuck.

I see people out on walks, listening to their stereos - which isn't necessarily bad, I used to take walks through Riverside Park while listening to Prairie Home Companion - but still, it's like people have to be surrounded by music all the time.

Get inthe car with most people, and it's VOOP - on with the radio. "But I wanted to talk!" "We can talk over the music!"

And it's almost impossible to find a lounge/cocktail bar that is actually quiet enough to hold a conversation. If ain't music - and not classical, either - played too loud, it's the goddamn TVs.

4. well people with headphones no longer bother me
in fact they are nice for walking or jogging or doing chores.

It's very hard to find a public place these days without two or three people talking on their accursed cell phones. The loud music though, I learned when I taught intro to business, was a strategy for Hard Rock Cafes (and probably other social places) - make the music too loud for talking, because we don't make money if people sit and chat. This is probably less of a problem in my small-town world because we usually have more "restaurants" than customers.

2. Yeah, that's pretty common...

The reason, I would assume, being that most people rarely have the menu screen loaded up for more than a minute or so at any given time, so they just don't bother to end it.

5. Makes a pretty good alarm clock, though
I often fall asleep watching a DVD, and that sometimes means waking up to some pretty obnoxious music.

I'd do the "sleep" thing on the teevee, but then I'd forget there's a DVD still going, and it'd keep going all day. :silly:

Wish they'd put a sleep thing on DVD players. Or do they and I just missed it? (Mine's like five years old.)
