Just watched Lust for Life

It was on TV yesterday early morning so I taped it and just finished watching it.

The first artist I really connected with growing up was Vincent Van Gogh. I even did a paper on him for my French IV class in high school... in french. Something about the wildness in his work always touched me deeply, as if he were straining against the confines of the canvass.

But I have even more sympathy for him now. I don't know if it's true or not, but the movie makes me seem very aware of the limitations of his illness (epilepsy?) They interspersed the dialog with snippets from his writings to his brother, Theo.

Just a beautiful film and I really loved the artistic discussions.... er... arguments between him and Paul Gauguin. I think I need to watch it again.
