Ok. Am I the only one who doesn't care about Oscar?
I mean, what's so fucking special about a bunch of actors and actresses doing their jobs? Who the hell decides what movies are the so called best anyway? One mans great movie may be another man's crap. Just watch the movies and enjoy them, or not. Personally, I loved "Caddyshack" and I'm pretty sure it didn't win any Oscars. Undoubtedly too tacky for "serious" film people. And most indie films I have seen suck too.
Yeah, I know a few films have great social and/or political importance, but what makes them any more worthy than something that just plain old fashioned entertains people? I also like a lot of Clint Eastwood films and as far as I know, only one has ever won an Oscar, "Unforgiven". And that was a good movie, but still one of his weaker efforts, imo. All I'm saying is that Hollywood and all the alleged "serious" critics can't tell me what to like or dislike. I saw "Syriana" and it was too hard to follow. So does that make it a great film, because an average guy like me had trouble following it? No. I just don't give a damn about the Oscars, but then again,I rarely watch any awards shows, save for the former Handys, now simply called the Blues Music Awards. But since they are not on major network TV, they don't count.

4. I haven't seen any of the movies yet, so I don't really care either.
Am sort of interested to see if the big prize goes to Brokeback Mountain, because that will be fun...

The Oscars can be entertaining, but they shouldn't be headline news, IMHO.

5. I don't give a rat's ass about the Oscars either...
My taste in movies is to eclectic to fit into the mold of the awards...I find that I usually either have very little opinion on the nominations, or disagree completely. Of course, one of my favorite movies of all times was Ghostbusters, if that tells you anything.

I think this might be the first time I've ever actually watched an Oscar ceremony.

7. I'm not watching it either. I watched a few minutes, just because
John Stewart was the Host, and to see how he was handling it, but soon clicked over to another show.

I have my favorites and sometimes they come nowhere close to the Oscar stage.

Oscar does not automatically equal good movie.

19. it's an industry thing....
why can't the frigging pigmedia just leave things alone? blowing up the academy awards into some kind of bs 'global extravaganza' while ignoring the most terrible criminal gangsters ever to screw up the usa seems to be their easy way out, the dodge....the revulsion that those tabloid mags found near checkout counters evoke conjure up an image of helplessness at the state of our society, and when you watch the oscars you can see that 'hollywood' is as helpless as we are, and at least jon stewart mocks the fatuous hero worshipping nonsense that is the political correctness that's prevalent now, this being georgebushamerica until the people are rid of him .....

22. So you watch the Blues Music Awards
and apparently appreciate those because you appreciate excellence in music, specifically blues. I imagine socially relevant blues would be even more deserving of recognition.

And so it is with film.

People in a profession awarding excellence. Not an attack on your movie watching habits.

23. I also have the opportunity to vote for said awards
being a member of the Blues Foundation. Maybe if the average movie goer could have a say in what wins, the Oscars might hold more interest for people. But we have absolutely no say as to what wins and what doesn't in motion pictures.
I think we agree that sports is entertainment, and in all major sports, fans have a chance to vote for all stars. Why can't the same be done for movies and music?

24. You're a member of the Blues Foundation
Hello??? Who do you think votes for the Oscars? 6,500 members of the Acadamy of Motion Pictures including actors, animators and short film makers, art directors and costume designers, cinematographers, composers and songwriters, documentary filmmakers, directors, executives, film editors, producers, public relations specialists, sound technicians, visual effects experts, and writers. I think they have every right to award excellence in their profession. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

25. Yes I am a member of the Blues Foundation
and I still don't know the nomination process. I imagine it's the same for the film industry.Incidentally, I am not involved in the Blues Music industry, just a huge fan. So I reiterate, why can't film fans have some say in what wins and what doesn't? I am not watching it. Like I stated in my original post, I rarely watch awards shows.

to my mind, the SAG awards are more interesting, as the winners are chosen by their fellow actors. But then I only watch SAG if a certain actor is in nomination. Otherwise I don't really care.

But I appreciate the fact that the Academy is pretty liberal, and I have almost always liked the movie that ends up being selected for "Best Picture." Still, I feel no need to watch. I can find out who won what in the paper tomorrow.
