I love Jon Stewart, but his Oscar hosting was a BIG YAWN.
What happened with Stewart tonight? He appeared unprepared and disconnected from the show. Also, aside from one tame Cheney swipe, we got nothing on Bush or the current state of shittiness in America.

I'll take the safe bet and predict that he won't be back next year.

1. The entire show was rigged not to be too controversial...that is
my opinion...

No one wants to upset the Facistists

7. maybe...I thought about that. But, still there should have been more.
The Tonight Show has been more harsh on Bush than Stewart was tonight.

12. I agree with you, considering we usually talk about
Stewart everyday in GD, and this academy awards was very political in the subtle way that Stewart does it. Maybe they will reconsider.

11. meh. I'm glad he doesn't go after Bush at every single opportunity
he has. That would marginilize him, and not get him invited anywhere else.

Not that long term planning, and DUers have ever had anything in common

NOOOO!!!! IT CAN'T BE!!! :sarcasm:

Of course, that doesn't make us any different from any other group of Americans, or humans for that matter. Most people tend to be shortsighted.

13. Oh, you wanted a political rally?
I thought it was supposed to be an awards show.

Perhaps you should be trying to get Stewart to host the next Democratic convention if you want hours of Bush-bashing?

17. Not hours of Bush bashing, but maybe more jokes than those against Dems
Stewart skewered the Dems more harshly than Repukes tonight. I wasn't expecting a Michael Moore moment, but it would have been nice to have at least one or two jokes about the Dubai ports deal or Katrina. Bush is on the ropes and any joke touching upon those two issues would only further cement his incompetence in the eyes of Oscar viewers.

28. I don't buy that at all.......
.....any Bush jokes would simply be labeled as Hollywood liberals spouting off.

Besides, I don't really think anyone watching the Oscars is using it as a barometer to figure out if Bush is an asshole.

Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 12:43 AM by hopeisaplace
and most common, clear thinking, rational people around the world
know this, so "laying it out" in an extravagant way at the Academy Awards
would be pathetically "obvious". I thought he did a great job. I watched the
entire awards show mainly because of Jon. His Cheney/Bjork joke had me laugh
hysterically out loud though - soooo funny. :)

34. I don't know what more
he could have done.

His digs at cultural conservatives were there but were subtle. The give and take between him and Clooney was great in that way - first he teased Hollywood about being a modern day orgiastic Soddom and Gomorrah giving Clooney the perfect opening to take his own direct hit. Him and Clooney also did a hilarious skit with them in bed and then Stewart introduced all those old cowboy movies.

I don't know how anyone could be confused by Stewart's politics. IMO, this was a very clever Academy Awards that clearly shot back at fanatical religious fundamentalist conservatives.

35. I agree
It was subtle...if you were looking for it, it was there. If you were just trying to check out the people and waiting to see how "angry" the liberals were in Hoolywierd, you got nuttin'. Even Clooney's statement zinged without giving the Repugs ammo for Monday morning.

So they'll just spin that Jon "blew it" and that (insert hardee-har-har here) that girly-man film didn't win...

Jon and George were great considering the gig.

What a bunch of shit.

The host IS disconnected from the show - and that is the show's fault, not the host's.
