Husker Du on the Joan Rivers Show, 1987:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ53M7zj9_M&search=husker%20du

Check out the interview with the band after they play "Could You Be the One?" (Not "YOU Could Be the One," as Joan claims.) This was a few months before they broke up under very acrimonious circumstances, and you can definitely sense some tension: an underground band hadn't reached that level of visibility before, and the friction created by the awkward questions the solidly-mainstream Joan Rivers poses is palpable.

Enjoy.

1. I will watch this when I get home, and thank you in advance.
I saw this at the tail end of it on a repeat of one of her shows. It's like one of those TV moments you remember for a while . . . like Fear or Captain Beefheart playing on SNL . . . or like Madness or Motorhead on The Young Ones . . . or like seeing "Don't Want to Know if You are Lonely" and having your musical world changed forever.

2. For me it was seeing the video for this same song...
On 120 Minutes in early 1988. I taped it and watched it over and over and over again. I was a year too late....damn....

I still think it may be Husker Du's best song.

3. I've always enjoyed the post-HD Bob Mould material myself.
You know, 'Black Sheets of Rain' and all that.

Of course, that was before I discovered Duranguense music. ;)

5. "Duranguense?"
You'll have to unpack that one for me. Ques es, amigo?

Workbook and Black Sheets of Rain were good albums, but Sugar was AWFUL. I still don't undeerstand what Bob was thinking when he formed that group.

8. Hola amigo. Es Duran Duran Mexicana.
Seriously. It's Mexican music from Durango that has strong ties to Chicago where it's very popular.

Uptempo, lot's of percussion, mainly brass and woodwinds. And as we just got back from Jalisco ayer, it's still fresh in my mind.

7. Add to that...
There's some really cool old Bo Diddley on there, Stooges, Pogues, Guns'N'Roses (live at the Ritz in 88 or 89), The Who...I spent 3 or 4 hours on there last weekend and had to call it quits. I would have blown the whole day if not.

Charles Manson? I'm gonna have to check that out!

10. Got a bootleg DVD off of eBay of their "Live from London" UK TV show
appearance - right in between New Day Rising and Flip Your Wig. It still kicks major ass.
