Married people:

Name something you wished you had received as a wedding present, but didn't. My son is getting married, and I want to give them something special.

You could tell them that if they have their hearts set on something, and they don't get it, that you WILL......

Just a thought.....It could be expensive, though......

I think they would insist they have everything they want. I'd like to get them something they wouldn't think of until they had been married a while, even if it's just something like Tupperware!

Unfortunately, the basket has outlasted the wedding.

Put in a card to remind him that marriage is NOT the end of romance. ;)

Something, that we didn't get...hmm....I can't really think of any. One of the things, that my wife wished that we had gotten, was a dinner silverware set...like fine plates, silverware, glass ware, glasses...stuff like that...so, there's my answer...I got everything I wanted, money, we just got into a new house literally three weeks before we got married, and by god, i never knew how much $ it took to get a house furnished, my god.

A honeymoon trip somewhere.

my grandparents gave us money for our honeymoon, which was the best thing they could have ever given us. We had a great trip that we've often looked back on fondly and will always remember, even after most things we received as gifts have broken or caught on fire or been garage-saled. And as an added bonus, it still makes my grandma's day to hear stories about our honeymoon, b/c she knows she contributed, so it's a gift that's kept giving for her as well :)

A divorce gift certificate

I love the melodic, soothing and meditative tones of windchimes. We have them surrounding our home. Very peaceful...

We have many times given a very nice set of windchimes as a wedding gift, along with the blessing for many years of harmony in their marriage.

I like to give symbolic gifts, and not always just go with the practical, yet somewhat boring, gifts.

Woodstock Windchimes are the brand I recommend. :thumbsup:

Took 6 years to get any, never got it from about 1/2 of my extended family.

I can relate, though.

They'll come around, or else they won't, and if they don't they aren't worth the fret. I've got in-laws that missed out on so much as a result of not being more accepting--fortunately they've come around now, and I actually feel bad for them when they realize how much they truly did miss out on ...

it would be nice six years later to know that it was sitting there, ready for me to invest in a house or fixing up a house.

Okay, my situation was semi-unique in that we had planned a traditional wedding with a registry and all that but had to move it up, only one side of the family could make it, and we ended up getting all cash gifts and no regular gifts... but...

I would have loved (have to judge from me cuz hubby isn't here for questioning, lol):

-The place settings I picked out from Pier One--they were so far beyond awesome.
-A really nice coffee maker (think Cuisinart)
-A digital camera (I have one, but it is really old)

I can't think of anything else right now... Gift cards are always nice--but make sure it is for somewhere nice (Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, that kind of thing).

... but Mrs. Laelth and I needed a nice set (600+ thread count) of deep-pocket sheets. Of course, that might be a bit suggestive, but nice sheets are ... really nice. :shrug:

Oh, we needed curtains too.

Ultimately, as you know, it will be the thought that counts. :toast:
