LOS ANGELES � After a long break, John Travolta's got the music in him again.

He thrilled moviegoers in 1977 as a disco-dancer in Saturday Night Fever and was a bad-boy bopper in 1978's Grease. Then Travolta put musical roles aside.

Until now.

The actor will take on the role of Edna Turnblad in Hairspray, a coming film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical based on John Waters' 1988 film. Travolta will star opposite singer-actress Queen Latifah, who has signed on to play Motormouth Maybelle, according to New Line Cinema.

The film's producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, said shepherding Travolta's return to musicals is "a dream come true." They're aiming for a summer 2007 release.

If we learned anything from the recent release of "The Producers" - the movie based on the broadway play based on the movie is that just because something is a hit broadway show that was made from a movie doesn't mean we should make it into a movie AGAIN!! John Waters made a movie, someone made a Broadway musical out of it, and now they're re-making the original movie?!

And people wonder why there's no good movies any more... This will bomb, just like ever other fucking recycled movie of the last twelve-fifteen years. The formula doesn't work anymore, Hollywood.....

5. I have to agree with you on that one

If Waters isn't directing it then I'd rather watch paint dry. Bad enough they didn't offer it to Harvey Fiernstein, who I heard absolutely rocked as Edna Turnblad.
